I hardened my first Katana tonight, and it came out BEAUTIFULLY

    First the Heat Treat Process:

This is a long blade for me, 28" with a pretty good bit of curve too
    [IMG]

Hmmm, just a wee bit longer than my forge
    [IMG]

OK, maybe a good bit longer than my forge
    [IMG]

    some really nice Action shots

Going into the Quench oil (Parks #50)

Check to see if it's still straight. When you first quench it, if you time it well,
you will have a few seconds to tweak little bends back into place before it REALLY hardens.
Then it's harder to get bends out of the blade.

Hmmm, seems it's too long for my fancy tempering oven as well.......

Then some rough polish shots to show of the Hamon a little bit:

    Wow, really great photos!

Thanks for sharing them. That really must have been a challenge to move that sword back and forth so many times through your forge to get it hot and not hit the openings and thus hitting your clay; and matching the curve of the sword too!

Sometimes when you see a picture... WOW is all that comes to mind. Other times you see a work of art and get the same feeling.

With this pictures all I can say is that true genious and artistic ingenuity went into the forging of that katana. :takeabow:

Keep up the amazing work and thanks for sharing the photos with us.:ernie:
