HAHA ! I sold my twists years ago!
Made bank, and now live on my own self sustaining island.
I kept my collection of 29's as a hard asset investment vehicle,
in case my gold was stolen by pirates.

SHHH ! the young newb collectors that buy up all the balis on FB and Istagram from the next hot
"Johnny come lately", DONT WANT TO HEAR THAT ! :bwah:

I agreed with you on buying what you love, you'll hold onto it longer and usually with time, all well made things become more valuable.
I stuck with mostly BMs and bought the newer Ti handle 4x range when the price was realistic or below. But I really loved the older stainless handles from the 90's, and the even older 80's PCCs and Bali-Song USA custom shops when you could find them here and there for just a few hundred.
I use to value the collection conservatively, but i had to adjust it with todays insane prices.
I really dont see the days of snagging a custom Samson for a few hundred ever coming back no matter how strong the dollar recovers.

Since we're all talking about inflation, here's a go on it:

In July 2016, the Carbon Basilisk-R launched on Blade HQ for $390.

Using the inflation calculator for 2016 to 2021, that price would be $453.04 today, which is the price of the Titanium Basilisk -- anodized no less.

Automakers, watches, etc will increase prices year over year for their products, but sometimes knives seem to be stuck in time.

If you have a midtech run released in 2019, and then take 2 years to get down your list, if you don't take deposits, technically the people at the end of the list are paying less than the people at the beginning of the list.

I like this post but respectfully disagree. Classic knives and historical name brand knives will hold more value than a custom one off mostly. Just a thought.

Sure, if you are looking at knives for re-selling. There are people out there who want to buy knives to keep/use. So if we strictly talk about buying a knife to keep/use the better value at those crazy price range would be the one-off customs.

Again, I'm talking about a BRS (for example) starting to reach the $800 to $1000 price point. I'd go with a custom Terry Guinn at that range...hands down. You might be able to resell the BRS easier but the Guinn is a superior knife for that price.

I can lend some info about the overpriced Blue Replicant. The owner believed it was a V1 blue replicant, of which only a handful were made, very rare stuff. Turns out it was only a V2, but nonetheless they were unsure of the price of such a rare V1 so I guess it was a hail Mary.

As for everything else? Who fuckin knows, a bunch of kids' parents using their unemployment to buy cool knives for their children
