Lucy the dog and I are heading to Florida for the winter next Saturday.

Yesterday, I decided to roadtrip the hundred miles or so to my favorite catfish restaurant. Not so incidentally, it's about a block from a Shepherd Hills Cutlery store.

And of course, I HAD to go in and "just look around".

And of course, being IN there, I had to buy a knife.

I settled on this little Case Carhartt Sowbelly. It has VERY grippy textured G10 scales, and a single "as ground" clip point blade. It's by no means a fancy knife, but it's thin, comfortable and sharp. I can imagine I'll slip it into my pocket when I don't want to worry about an expensive knife.

They had it on sale for $27.99, so I couldn't resist.

While I was taking pictures of the new Sowbelly, I took a few of my REAL EDC.

This knife has been my most-carried knife since I got it in the Spring of 2011.

I'm not sure if it exactly falls in the category of "Production Knife", so I don't think I've ever posted it here before.

    It's Stag Scagel Fruitport.

I think Great Eastern made it for Derrick Bohn of Knives Ship Free, who'd bought the Scagel name. The Wharncliffe blade is carbon steel, and was convexed by the crew at Bark River Knife and Tool.

I'm not sure how many were made, but can't imagine there were a lot of them. They're no longer in stock on KSF's site.

I'd bought a two bladed Stag Scagel Barehead Jack before I got this one. It's a beautiful knife, and I fell in love with the slot nail nick, but it was a little too big for me to comfortably carry in my pocket.

I actually bought two of these single blade Fruitports. I'd never actually USED a Wharncliffe, so I got a Clip Point (also in Stag), just in case I didn't like the Wharnie. I was talking about them the whole time I was waiting for them to arrive, and a buddy caught my fever. He said he'd buy whichever one I didn't want.

I loved the Wharnie and stuck it in my pocket. He took the Clip Point and stuck it in a safe.

His is still pretty, but mine has been used all to hell.

The stag's getting worn smooth and isn't as pretty as it once was, but that blade comes back to scalpel sharp in just a few licks on a strop.

I love that slot, because I can just grasp the blade and open it up. I'm sure it's made the knife more fragile, but I'm not gonna use that skinny little blade as a prybar.
