Recently a "member" had been admonished for repeatedly 'breaking' rules in the for sale areas (The Voodoo Economics).

He did not like the deal the Mod Staff gave him. He kept on complaining and complaining. "Delete my account" and yadda-yadda-yadda. :blahblah:

So, my question to you all is two fold:

He kept mentioning JD's "reputation" in a disparaging manner, probably thinking that would get the Mods to cut him some slack and see the world his way?!

What are your feelings on this, what have you heard or been told about JD and what do you feel is JD's reputation?

Serious topic and "real talk" expected (for the most part as this *is JD* and all)

I'm not familiar with any outside opinions of the JD (nor do I give a shit), but I did a quick Google search and found this:

    http://www.xmarks.com/site/www.jerzeedevil.com/forums/#r

Ranked: #8 in Knife Forums, #330 in Blades, #396 in Knives, #6,629 in Forums, #19,470 in Outdoors, #30,675 in Guns

    WTF? :thefinger

JD - the one and only.

Well, honestly I could care less what others think of the JD..personally this has been the best "forum" I've ever been apart of...I've learned so much and made so many friends due to this site that I could never repay my gratitude....if others can't figure out what is hidden here that shows their own character flaws and they need to stop projecting blame upon a forum and own it for themselves. Oh and I only hear bad things about the JD to those that couldn't make it past the the idea of "rules"

    OK, since you asked:

The girlfriend was glancing at my screen every now and then while we were sitting at the table.

She commented: "Your Knife site lately looks like it's become more of a Porn site with a few knives"...

    Just saying...

The JD does have a Reputation per se, amongst the other Knife Forums and Knife Lovers as well.

It seems to run the gamut of descriptions.
Most that I hear from non members and members of other forums is : Drama filled, Childish, filled with High School nonsense..I was guilty of thinking that way as well - before I started to participate..

    What I hear from Members...
There is NO Place like the JD.. That every other forum is nothing more than a contrived set of Manners and Behavior that just isn't real.

And having now been active on the JD, and involving myself with the Members, I have to agree with the 2nd opinion.

To my personal regret, That said Reputation kept me away from joining for years.

It wasn't until I met Ron and some Members at one of Aldo's Hammer-ins, where I was convinced to give it a real go..

I said as much to Ron, and he explained to me that he wanted the JD to be a place where his Members would talk to one another "Just as they would Face to Face".

Being a Knifemaker, to some extent being a member on other forums is a normal thing. As a matter of fact, I'm a member on all of them.
But I spend no time anywhere but here...

    Why?
    Because Ron was right.
Having a membership that deals with one another in the same manner on the forum, as in real life works.

I know the friends I have made here are real. I talk with them on the phone. I hang out with them. I go to shows with them. And they in turn have come to shows I'm involved in, to show support for me.

And if a day goes by(it hasn't) that I'm not on the JD.. I miss them.

The Rules of the JD are simple. They start with an Intro.. And not for anything that's pretty much it. The Rules in the Sales section aren't hard to follow, and if they are, well too bad.

Too many come here to sell and don't contribute. On Ron's dime. They give nothing back but complaints when they don't get their way.
They act childish, cause Drama , and then go spread their sour grapes across the internet..Fuck'em.

Since I discovered The Internet back in 1996, I have (for varying time periods) belonged to camera groups, stereo groups, dog groups, car groups, and knife groups.

Many of them were nothing more than uptight Snobatoriums, and not much fun. Then one day, I happened to stumble upon the JD, and after looking around a bit, realized that this place is THE REAL DEAL....

So, FUCK "outsiders" and the horse they rode in on....the JD RULES !

I have grown with the JD and I enjoy it more than any other knife forums per se. If someone can't appreciate the JD then I say... GOODBYE! I find Ron to be very tolerant of assholes (me included) and forgiving. The JD's reputation rates high in my book and has been easy to enjoy. I have not seen anyone really knock the JD but then again I don't usually go looking for assholes. The JD has a fine reputation!

I'll answer your question with another question.

We try to put NWS, NSFW, NSW, etc on topics, vids, pics, etc outside of Ultra Hott where it's a given.

Do you think everything else, including all avatars and sigs, is Safe For Work?

Whatever the hell 'safe for work' is by definition...?

I wandered into the JD about two years ago and proceeded to get my ass handed to me. It was my doing for not following some pretty simple rules.
I precceded to make things right and stuck around.
What keeps me here is the reality of this site. There is no pretentious bullsht.
The knives keep me coming back but the members are what makes this the best damn forum.

Speaking frankly, ANY "knife" website by nature, would be deemed ADULT material by any standards. You can say or add any "We are G rated" or "Family friendly" tag line to it, but discussion of knives (especially automatics), guns, etc. is clearly, at least in my mind's eye (as well as most I.T. department and filtering software), adult content. Correct me if [you think[ I am wrong... No animosity intended or inferred buddy!

I personally do not mind the R rated avatars & sigs, but considering the theme overall, can take them or leave them. :idunno:

    Alrighty then.

Just makes me wonder why the labeling of anything NSFW here is necessary...

I have a hard time connecting with people on forums, and the JD is no exception. It doesn't help that I live across the country and often feel lots of people here know each other outside the forums. How's that for bringing my whiny drama into it?

I have contributed to the forum off and on and certainly enjoy and respect most of the regulars here.

I see a lot of disrespect on the forums. This can be really rude language to people who don't follow the rules, and even with each other. I think sections like the Field encourage it. I'm personally not like that and I'd like to believe my posts reflect that. However, I keep coming back and people's choice of language and how they show (or don't show) courtesy to others is their own choice and I would be stupid to think I should hold others to the expectations I set for myself.

If everyone was as boring as me this forum wouldn't be what it is and most people wouldn't be here - then we would all miss out.

As far as the nudity - avatars and threads - makes no difference to me... But I do love me some titties.

My wife is almost always around when I'm on JD...Her take on it? It's mostly for Guys, soooo, there's bound to be T & A. She could care less..

But by the same token I'm careful should my 15 year old be around.

I think the NSFW titles are nothing more than a fail-safe to allow us as members to prevent unwanted trouble.

Do I look at it at work? Sure do, on my smart phone. At Lunch or on Break...

Would I look at it if I was in an Office or Cubicle? No. I'm not a Fucking Idiot.
If you do open up the JD at work, you may find yourself doing way to much explaining about the JD.

Would it be the same JD without it? I believe so, as I didn't come here for porn, I came for knives...

If you want porn, Google is your friend.

Mikey, an easy and fun solution to this issue would be to post something in the Devil Meet and Greet Section.
Try to put together a meetup in your area.

I've only been to a few of the M&G's in Jersey, and sometimes it's a lot of guys, sometimes not. But always a good time!
