I have had probably a dozen throughout the years. 50+ if you count when I raised puppies. And every single one was a good dog. They are quiet, tough, smart, and fiercely loyal. I have seen them get kicked in the head by a cow and act like nothing even happened. There are a lot of cattle where I live and the heeler is the most popular breed for a farm dog. Even the mutts with heeler in them are highly prized.

You just have to survive one maybe two years of the absolutely most destructive puppy you've ever seen and then you get 15 years of the best dog you could ever ask for.

On a sad note, I had to bury my male Belgian Malinois, Jock. He was 16 years old and today he just couldn't get up. I didn't think he'd live through the winter, but every time I thought he was about to pass he bounce back better than before. Just not this time.

You always see poison in the movies as being black or some sickly shade of green, but what the vet used today was bright pink. He went quickly, he lived well, he sired a bunch of puppies, and he was loved a whole hell of a lot. If I go out the same way, I'd be pretty happy.

I'll see if I can find a picture of him before he was sick to add to this post.

And, yes, I tried to find his owners. No collar or chip, posted ads on Backpage, Craigslist, the nearby PetSmart, and the pound.

    Too many pets.

I work for a rescue so you can say that I am bound to have a couple. I have a shih-tzu chihuahua mix that no one wanted cause he was ugly af. Now he is a sexy little shit. I have another chi-tzu mix but everyone wants to take her from me. My mom has 3 shih-tzu all black and white. We have 2 red eye puffer fish and 8 fish tanks full of fish. My aunt has around 30 dogs at her house and 20 of them are yorkies. Thats pretty much it i used to have a German Shepherd but he was so old when he passed.

Cute! What with those giant (relative to her size) ears, does she catch the wind?

That is one good looking dog! I don't think you're stuck with "Pippi" if you don't like it. Just find something that is close. I once rescued a dachshund from the shelter named "Buster" and changed his name to "Rider" (as in "Low Rider")

i think she'll grow into them... like her paws... or she won't.
i'm alright with a freakish dog.

    nah.... i love the name.
i showed my girls the old pippi longstocking movies a couple years ago so they have a fondness for the name too.

After about 10 months of chemo we had to let my boy Tank rest on Monday. He was my friend and the gentlest soul I've ever known.

Sorry for your loss. Often, losing a pet is as traumatic as losing a family member.

    Just for Tank...

    In Remembrance of Tank…

I never met Tank but have had a few dogs of my own.
We get so attached to our dogs, we become as one.
We feed them, walk them and even talk to them without feeling silly.
They seemed to enjoy every day and taught us how to have fun.

But alas, puppies become dogs and do have a limited lifespan.
Tank completed 10 months of chemo when his life came to an end.
He left this world and ascended into Heaven as all dogs do.
He will be remembered with much fondness by his family and friends.

    Rest In Peace, Tank.
