My revisit to the grinder to slick up those plunges didnt go very well. Sanding sure brings the flaws out. I may need new thumbs after this.

It sure does. Again, my comment on black blades seems relevant here. As well as knives sanded down to "user" level aka 60 grit. lol

Well there are some flaws for sure. Not a fan of the top plunges but I may just make them worse. I'll probably sand a bit more and call it good. Original intent was to parkerize, I'll be sticking with that Haha. That calls for sandblasting beforehand, so I'm not sure how beneficial it would be to keep going. Heres where it's at.

Plunges... meh, but the grind lines look good. You work at it and you and Jason will tag team the shit out of this forum.

Should be doing this tomorrow or Friday. Has anyone parkerized anything before?

nope... and now that I look again, your bottom plunges are actually pretty good. Those top one that sweep in are tough.

Yeah, I'll do them differently next time. I'll make another one of these blades. It was a lot of fun. I've got some cool old micarta that will make an awesome handle.

Didn't spend much time in the shop today. Crazy beautiful out.

Trying to get projects going that I've had laying around forever.

Heres one of them. "Dive" knife, similar to one of Billy Tridents projects. Yes I asked permission to replicate it in G10.

Been working on a makers mark. Cant thank @apdallaround enough for his help. Still a ways to go but lots of progress has been made. Also going to build my own electro etching machine. Still waiting on parts.

Me too!! Mine's getting a bit low... need to make a run to the local liquor store.

    Mark.jpg

Here in North Redneckistan, the liquor stores are still open! Sales are booming since nobody has to worry about going to work, [IMG] except the liquor store employees! :bwah:

Suspiciously, the liquor stores are run by the state and the state keeps the profits. I wonder.... [IMG]

12 volt dc power supply and a q tip with baking soda and water for electrolite all you need. I also use a variac variable transformer and a bridge rectifier to turn to dc for annodizing. Not fancy but works

Will put this together tomorrow and see what it looks like.

Used a mud pan. Size was perfect for me.

    20200410_165526_copy_800x600.jpg

Used some nail polish to protect the threads. Didnt make sense to make them all gritty and rough. These two are after sandblasting.

This one is after the black dip your suppose to use before the actual parkerizing.
    20200410_173500_copy_800x1066.jpg

This is heating up the solution and pre charging it with some steel wool. One thing I'd change is the direct heat. I'd put a steel plate under it next time. I think it would help keep the temp even.

I've sprayed it with oil here. Will let it soak overnight and come to a conclusion. First off, I think I left it in there to long. It's crazy rough. Directions said 10-15. Mine went about 15. So we will see what it looks like. May blast it again and give it another go.

Well I'm super happy with one side, not with the other. Think I'll reblast and try it again. Sadly, I havent finished my sandblast cabinet. So I'll have to wait till Monday.

The good side. Dont mind any discoloration. I had just wiped off oil. Coloring is very consistent and darker than what the pictures portray. 20200411_082042_copy_768x1024.jpg 20200411_082050_copy_768x1024.jpg

And the rough side. Interesting, this is the side that was up sitting in the solution. Hmmm 20200411_082058_copy_768x1024.jpg

Methinks he doth protest too much.

Looks great Sean. Love the way the handle looks especially.
