Makes perfect sense. I think. Your talking about the thin part that sits on the bottom of the button right? If so, I counterbored that quite a lot. More than I want to. Could probably go a little more, but it surely changes my button inlay plans and the countersink I was going to do around the button. I went a little more on the spring side. It's pretty close. Thought about trimming the spring down a little.

I might try to carefully shorten the part that would lock up on the blade. A lathe would sure be handy.

Maybe this shows it better. There is a picture of the button depressed and released as it sits. Well, these are scrap pieces.

Not sure why they would taper the part of the button that engages the blade.

I'm starting to feel the time crunch. 20191012_111846-768x1024.jpg 20191012_112643-768x1024.jpg 20191012_112649-768x1024.jpg

Ya you could grind that side down a little so when you press it it will miss the blade and maybe cut down that spring a little too. Good luck sean i know how frustrating those can be

As always, I appreciate the help. It's so damn close! There is a lathe at work, if all else fails. But if I have to go that route, there is no chance I'll finish in time. I think I'll have one more weekend.

There I was thinking things were going my way.

Got the button functioning. Blade was locking open and closed. There was a bit of drag on the blade. Took it to the grinder a few times things were going well....then I took off too much. Turns out, that material holds the button open dummy.

Luckily I still have my plan B blade. To bad I head out of town tomorrow.

Back on track. Well still behind actually. But I am way behind on hitting the road. Pictures are the same as all the others. But here they are anyway.

    20191015_092554-1024x768.jpg 20191015_100129-768x1024.jpg 20191015_101813-768x1024.jpg 20191015_101825-768x1024.jpg 20191015_110910-768x1024.jpg

Putting it together is going to be a pain. I think I will deepen the pivot holes. Just feels like it needs more meat there. Maybe deepen the spring pocket in the case as well. I'll decide that once the blade gets further along. It is way oversized at the moment. The spring seems to keep the blade off of the spring side, but I'll need to put a washer on the opposite side.

Progress is crazy slow when you have to do a test run (or 3) on every step. I think its unlikely I will get to the cool stuff I had in mind to fancy it up. We will see.

Well I got to the shop for just a little bit. Right off the bat I made a mistake. Of course. Turns out, you shouldn't set your stop pin till you have your final blade shape. Duh. Had to file in a new lock position on the blade.

Not sure how much room I'll have to put an inlay in the button, once I grind it flat with the case there will not be much left. I'll have to do something.

Good news is, if it doesnt work for cutting its heavy enough to knock someone out.

Well, a knock-out might be preferable to a cut!

I'm glad you got your feet in that last pic. Now Jason won't be so lonely.... :manganr:

Feels like that is enough of a recess to press the button.

Well, so much for inlaying one of those cool dark red garnets into the button. Not much room at all in there. I'll have to look in the material box and see what i have.

Blade is hardened and the toaster/tempering oven is warming up. I'll work on the case while it's going through its tempering cycles.

Went with the opposite kirinite scale from last years buildoff. Its gluing up.

Blade is on second round of tempering.

Experimenting with finish. Not at all what I had in my mind. But I think it will do.

    Thank You.

I cant believe the button turned out. Wish the reds came through a bit better, but I'll take it. There was only about .023 left for the inlay.

Well that's it for today. Have to go pick up the kid (the dog). Productive day....I think. Doesnt look like much.

    Tomorrow:

    -grind/finish the blade.
-Finish around the case and blacken. What do you guys think about jimping around the outside?
-Assemble (I think I need a pet monkey for the shop. Some extra hand and fingers maybe be needed)

Thanks for your patience. I had fun today.
