George Romero's "Dead" Series - Lots of issues at the time are tackled under the guise or horror and gore in these flicks.

Fritz the Cat 1&2, Heavy Traffic, Coonskin, Wizards, American Pop, Hey Good Lookin, Fire & Ice, Cool World - These movies are kind of the genesis of controversial cartoons. Long before Family Guy or the Simpsons, or Beavis and Butthead and countless others. They're from another time and place and were done differently than the animation of today and over all just have a very unique feel that will just kind of stay with you for a while after you watch them.

The View Askew Series - I know they might come off as a bit low brow but they still cover a lot of subjects so many people are familiar with in a very close to home way if that makes sense.

The American Pie Movies - Also a bit silly but still what I think is a pretty accurate portrayal of life between 18-30 for most people which makes them movies you can just relate to if you're in that age range.

The Watchmen Motion Comic/Ultimate Cut - Certainly a movie that makes you think, a lot of in depth and philosophical tones in this one.

Altered States, Dazed and Confused, The Stand, The Basketball Diaries, Stigmata, Equilibrium, Gabriel, In Time.

Hopefully I suggested movies that fit the bill of what you were looking for. I was out with my friends tonight so I'm about 80 percent sober but hopefully you find this post helpful and informative :manganr:.

    Try these:

Bladerunner-good'ol sci-fi head fuck, you may have to watch it multiple times to "get" it.

The ninth gate-a very strange film involving devil worship, from a controversial director (some people want to lynch the guy) if you like Lost Highway you'll like this.

    Seven-good serial killer film.

The Art of the Steal (2014)

Kurt Russell, Matt Dillon and a great cast.
A basic heist movie that keeps you guessing to the very end.
Its the best, most fun movie I've seen in a while.

Do yourself a favor and don't watch the trailer first. See it with virgin eyes.

On the lesser known side, how about George A. Romero's "Knightriders" with a young Ed Harris?

The "Terminator" movies. Just saw them this weekend. I was always scared of the first one when I was little but I decided to conquer my fears and not only watch it but buy the whole series. First two are awesome, the last two lose a lot of steam but are pretty good in their own little ways.

Also the Original "Planet Of The Apes" box set. The whole story and saga is just classic, old school sci fi and I don't know why but it just kind of stayed with me since it's a lot different than other sci fi movies I've seen. I almost would have never bothered but when I heard they remade this movie for a second time I just decided to buy the box set on a whim and I'm glad I did.
