Hello all.. I hope someone can help me here.
I have acquired what looks to be a BM42 but I need help to verify
that it is in fact a BM42. I have attached pics. it weighs in at 4.5OZ
    handle length is about 5 1/4" I also have a FU42 which I took a
comparison picture next to. it is definitely different than the fake 42.
the handles are definitely not stainless steel. I took a magnet to the handle and it does not attract. You can definitely see the number 42
on the blade. The person I got it from said he had the whole thing
anodized black.. which is strange because I was not aware that titanium could be anodizes so dark. can anyone give me some
feedback? pictures are attached.. hopefully the attachment works.
I can also take more pictures if you need to see different parts
of the knife. I also have a DDR that I need help with..but I wanted
to figure this one out first . :)

As far as I'm aware, you can't anodise titanium black.

Could be real idk... your pics aren't the best.

for starters...it would be the first fake MC,
the latch looks the real deal and so the plunge lines..
the magnet test although it helps, it`s not the said all be all like it seems,my stainless 41 that i have is demagnetized
as for anodized black...he may had made a mistake with duracoated or whateverelse is out there
one more thing you can do, is measure the thickness of the blade i bet is if not .125 very close to it...the fakes(as far as i know) are close to .110
also a fake should be over 5 oz
    ....

Never handled an FU. Are their handles titanium or stainless steel? If it's SS then shouldn't it be pretty easy to tell the difference between the titanium handles of a real 42?

i agree.. but me not knowing too much about the history and different 42 models... it could be an aluminum 42. i just dont know if such a model was ever made.
about the FU42. yeah.. i got that before i knew anything about balisongs and the motives of the FU42.. i agree.. it is junk.. but i do still own it :(

i will post better picks in the sunlight. :)

Pics are still too bad too tell. Need pics of tang cups, area where the latch head fits into and the logo's on the blade (both sides) unless we are screwed on the logo laser markings because of the coating? Is that logo you show in white? Pics are tough to tell anything. Why can't you stick a magnet to the handles and see if they are titanium or not? The weight you have listed and the latch looks legit but your pics need some improvement to be sure.

Looks legit. Most likely DLC coated like this one...

And yes they did make one 42 model with aluminum handles.

Two of them in this pic...
