Hey all, just in the door. 2nd round did it, clear margins.

BUT, enough of my ear was removed to require plastic reconstruction surgery.

I was sent directly from the MOES surgeon to the plastic surgery DR.

Tomorrow morning at 7:30am I have the 1st procedure where they take a flap of skin off my neck and sew the ear "pinned down" To it.

After it grows it's new blood supply 2-3 weeks, the skin is then detached from my neck and becomes the new ear tissue.

Talk about steps I had not imagined, this is sure one of them.

Anyhow, my ear has a compression bandage till tomorrow, but I do have a image from the MOES surgen of the work he did (ear removal) .

Scan it later and post up, that is if you folks aren't squeamish. :ross:

Off to take some pain meds and rest for a while till they kick in.

Thanks for the continued posts of support.

Get some sleep, buddy.....rest is a healing thing. Tomorrow's another big day.

Glad that they didn't need to get too extreme...even though it seems a little brutal.

So they are using neck-skin as the donor for your new ear? Well modern science is wonderful and all, but "neck-ear" does not have the same ring to it as "here comes old dick-ear". :manganr:

I'm sure there is time to check into that!

I'm glad things are going well, and I hope they continue that way.
    all da best,

Very glad to hear your margins are good....ears are overrated...seriously.:manganr:

I am late to this thread and read all the previous posts, I hope the other areas other than the ear are good too Glenn.

I think the measure of a man is how he treats others, so you should have some big Karma coming your way. My thoughts are with you Glenn.

Thanks for the most positive comments.

And yes Andy, thank heavens for attaining clear margins of tissue without loosing more ear then I had.

Speaking of ear removal. I am leaving this image I promised as a link, if you click it this you can see what "work" was done today. Rather then force people to view it's your choice.

    Graphic:

Tomorrow AM (7:30) plastic reconstructive surgery commences, they will slice open a corresponding area against my head/neck and sew the ear down. Then about 3 weeks before it will have it's new blood supply then they will detach it and use the neck/head skin (removed) as well , to create the new top ear "fold"

Then healing on both locations will take about a months+ time.

In the int-rum of all, June 17th have MOES surgery set for the other two spots on my arms , and the 6th to see a pulmonary specialist to rule out involvement, busy days ahead.

I have been super pro-active in scheduling/follow up, and in turn the doctors each and everyone of them have been cream of the crop, all with a medical plan ahead for for eradication of this beast of a disease, and letting me walk away with dignity intact.

I have been blessed with the folks that have taken on my care in this next chapter of Cancer Treatment.

    .

More to come, as I can.

Now off to find a n00b to pick on to distract myself for a spell :cheesydevil:

Hi all, well plastic reconstructive surgery stage one went flawlessly.

Only discomfort was the initial numbing process of local injections.

The DR didn't have to "pin" the ear back, he was able to advance enough skin off my scalp and neck to draw it up to cover the exposed edge of my ear.

Monday afternoon the dressings come off, and about two weeks later stage two of the procedure takes place to form the leading ear edge curl, to make my ear look natural once again.

I am in aw of the wonders of modern medicine placed in skilled hands.

R&R for the weekend ahead.

Hey all, time for a post OP update.

Last night I was fucking miserable in pain, morphine was like taking a aspirin even with having a high threshold for pain.

Managed to get about 3hrs sleep , I know it's not a lot but was so uncomfortable could not get to bed till early AM.

This morning, feeling much better !

Pain levels dropping to tolerable, no worse then what the wife inflicts during a good jaunt . :ross:.

Here is where I sit in process, and this will be a live pic below, as it's not terribly graphic.

You can see top and bottom "slice" under tape, this is where they cut, then separated my skin from the back of ear, and separated from my skull to allow free movement , then they advanced the free moving skin tissue forward to cover the missing ear portion.

In two weeks or so, I will undergo procedure 2 where they will create the leading ear edge to simulate as natural of a ear "curl" as they can achieve.

Been a heck of a ride the last couple of days, but I am fairing better then expected given the circumstances at hand.

And the current pic post OP day 1 plastic reconstructive surgery :
