Oook, that is interesting. We do not have those here in the lower Smokeys. They'd probably be hunted/trapped to extinction if we did. May be why we don't have any here in the first place! Pretty sure that they need that northern climate to thrive in though. We do have mink's and some weasels, though. We have the poor country cousin I reckon!

Yeah, it's funny how they let a species get down to numbers in the 100's or less before they stop the taking of what ever animal it is about to be depleted to extinction. Crazy when you really think about it!

With this plandemic, drive-in theaters are coming back. Meanwhile, hop-in theater NEVAR went out of style....

Found this little fledgling in our back yard, thankfully before the dogs and cats did, we think he's a sparrow. Been watching to see if the parents come to tend to him. Can hear them but haven't seen them yet. If they don't show up soon we'll bring him (?) in from the cold for tonight and take him to a sanctuary tomorrow. Wife's out looking for bird food now.

Quick update, after some research we discovered that most recommend leaving fledglings alone and the parent birds will tend to them until they can fly. We did bring him in last night, it rained pretty hard all night and got pretty cold. I don't think he would have survived it. We took him back into the yard this morning after it started warming up and he started hopping around and chirping. He was soon joined by several adult birds who fed him and, I think, were encouraging him to fly after them. We left them alone and checked this afternoon with no sign of him and no alarm sounds from the adult birds when we took the dogs out to pee. We think he took to wing but we'll keep a lookout and limit access to the dogs for tomorrow at least.

He's still out there. Other birds still tending to him. Hope he flies soon. The dogs and Sophie (our cat) want their yard back...

Looks like he took off. Funny how these little distractions seem to take over when you're retired... :shakie:

We recently went through the same chain of events with robin fledglings.
LOL! We had a very similar story to yours recently with robin fledglings. First, we were concerned with them hopping out of the nest onto the ground until we did a little research. One fledgling seemed a little slower to progress than the others-he hung out next to my house. One evening we experienced a cold, hard rain and I ended up making a small lean-to to protect him over night.

Rabbit decided to make a nest in a banana plant on our back deck. She had 3 babies. That’s her standing up looking in the planter for them & then the babies running around the deck EF65CB85-AAE9-4236-9580-16449511903B.jpeg 09100A87-7ED1-4A5D-93BB-5C9AA259D310.jpeg D90A76A0-3EE8-45BA-A68D-615912D1BED2.jpeg E93C0932-3AE1-47D2-BD33-EA52C4FA224F.jpeg 2F8CB4A0-79EB-4E4A-AB60-1D4280EBDBB4.jpeg
