I realize I haven't been on here much, but looking through as best I could, I see nothing about the passing of one of the best Members of this Forum, and the Human Race.

Judy Schmitt(jschmitt) passed away 2 nights ago. She'd been in 2 or 3 Rehabilitation Centers for the past 2 years after suffering a fall moving from her bed to her wheelchair and, in the process, breaking her left ankle and right femur.

That's right, femur, iow, the thigh bone.

She'd also been dealing with an infection(and other issues) for quite some time, and was taken into the hospital this past Monday.
Tuesday morning her BP crashed, and she was put on a Ventilator.
When they removed that tube, her CO2 levels rose to dangerous levels, so they put it back in.

They tried a CPAP the next time they removed it, but even that wasn't enough, and the tube went back in.

Her lungs were just not strong enough to take a full breath and then expel that breath, leaving the CO2 in her system.
Add to that the fact that her heart was weak.

Judy made the decision to be taken off the Ventilator permanantly, and let nature take it's course. And put her soul in the hands of God.
Judy passed shortly afterwards, within an hour(if I'm not mistaken).

Her sister, Gail, asked me to forward the Link to the Guestbook to the folks on KnifeForums, because that was a segment of her life the Family knew little about.
She asked for her Friends to sign into the Guestbook and leave a comment about your conversations, dealings, etc with Judy.

I know Judy touched the lives of many people, both on KF and here, so as soon as I get the info I will post the Link here as well. Her Obituary will not be available until tomorrow.

Please say a Prayer for Judy, and her Family.

We've lost one of The Best.

    RIP Judy. You're already missed.

Very sad news. I wondered why she hadn't posted in so long.

How brave though, a true fighting spirit who met her own fate on her own terms.

I admire that and hope I have a sliver of as much courage.

    Travel well, Judy.
