Change of plans. I'm going to start a new blade and try making scales from my red JD tee shirt that's falling apart.
Just wait, for the added bonus of my light tan long sleeve JD shirt which has multiple holes but I can't bring myself to throw it out. This might take awhile since I've never made micarta scales.

I spent the day making scales for the first time.
    1. I soaked bamboo rings in polyurethane and paint thinner.
    2. Dumped resin, the tee shirts and rings with a purple heart wood liner into a wax paper mold inside my press I made.
    3. Placed a R-road track onto top for weight DSCN0471.JPG

WHAM O, this is what came out. DSCN047111.JPG It looks like blood clots with green olives thrown up by my dog. But it's a start.

Round two and I'm beat silly again. This time I sloped the mix together with wood shavings and it looks bad. The pic is also bad. Too much resin on top. I currently have round three drying and used the JD words from my tee shirt at the bottom. Stay tuned.

Two new batches to dry. Just paint and resin until I find a way to make it work. I'll be cutting out a new blade today. I also hope to hit the forge today . DSCN0491.JPG DSCN0491.JPG DSCN0491.JPG DSCN0490.JPG

If I close my eyes I can barely make out the inside of my eyelids! :lulz:

That resin can be a bitch to work with. Too much hardener, not enough hardener, too much resin, ad nauseam... Make a feller wanna puke! [IMG]

Much luck with a future success! [IMG]

    Shitty pics for everybody!
I will keep trying new scales. They are easy to mix up but take a day to dry until the results are known. I made a drawing and transferred it to cardboard and painted on the saw blade to cut out.

Slight changes to the design. The longer handle feels better in the hand so I extended it out. Just found a pic of the large saw blade.
