A recent project in the workshop was a set of four knives intended for kitchen and table use, three kitchen knives in different sizes and a carving knife for the table...

    Here's a few WIP photos...

The carver has a blade of around 10", the kitchen three 8", 6" and 4"...

I wanted to handle them in something quite traditional and Rosewood was used a great deal here in Sheffield historically but wanting something a little nicer, personally I always think of Cocobolo as Rosewood's better looking sibling, so I went with that, Cocobolo...

I also thought a nice touch might be to book match the scales, across the set of four...

Quite how effective that was going to be ultimately I didn't know but I thought it worth a try...

I'm not sure the book matching thing across the set works too well, it's there though at least...

Here's a photo I took as the knives were finished...

One of the reasons for making the knives was basically to get properly photographed, I'm having a new website built just now and wanted to show the 'household' stuff on there, so a pro photographer based in the same building as my workshop had them for a few days, here's the result of that...

A nice set all in all, one I am very happy with, you'll be sick of the sight of me now I am back...

    Cheers all, Stu.

Agreed, beautiful set of knives. Now the buyer needs an equally beautiful knife block to store them, :jdwink2:

It is funny you mention that...

Storage was a real headache, as mentioned earlier though I was going for a traditional look/feel, hence the Cocobolo, classically knives likes these were carried in canvas rolls, so that is the direction I went...

I found a young lad just starting up in business about half a mile from me and making a very similar type of product to what I was after, I gave him the knives along with a brief and this was the result...

Made from a heavy weight and waxed canvas, I love it, I think it is perfect for the job...
