Experimenting with Holstex this week. Played around with some small pieces to figure out how it forms then tied into a big piece.

From what I see so far....it likes to be at around 350 in the oven....using a thermometer to check the accuracy of the oven helps. I had to put mine at 385 to get 350. Checking it occasionally with a laser thermometer, looks like its ready to form when surface temp is around 260. Time in seemed best from 30 to 60 seconds.

Doing all that I got great definition and none of the cracking issues some guys have experienced. The stuff looks great and if it finishes up with no issues I'll be using it a lot.

    A couple pics......

I'll post more as I finish them up.

    Thanks for looking! :knifey:

I get a 4x8' sheet for around $137 shipped. This is about$105 for a 4x4' sheet. So a little more but not so much that it would keep me from using it.

Looks great! I would imagine you have to pay attention as to how the pattern lays and make sure it doesn't shift in the press.

It's pretty forgiving but yeah, you don't want it too far off.

I think only Knifekits has it. Their pricing is good and their service has been great.

Been on the road so much I'm not sure where I am.......so, only been in the shop one night the past week. Hope to get back on this later this week.

I order lots of my sheath making supplies from them, too. I just didn't know they sold 4x4' sheets!

I think it's a recent change. Most of the colored kydex and holstex have sheet pricing now.

Yes.....I need to post pics but I am real happy with how it finished up. I was making some big sheaths too so if it is workable in this size the smaller stuff will be cake.

I'll get more pics in here soon.

I really like it. Forms well and looks much nicer than kydex. It also seemed to give just the right amount of tension. Springy but secure. Will definitely be using more.
