    Lucky find, early Benchmade Bali-Song!

Purchased from the original owner who purchased it during an early sales trip to his shop in Connecticut. The shop did not purchase any, only he did.

Very interesting, rubber insert in the latch. It feels silky smooth when it closes.

    Enjoy!

That was their attempt at a latch gate. Didn't hold up too well.

I don't remember when they stopped, but I always understood that they came up with the idea later on, not in the beginning.
They didn't use the inserts for very long. The inserts wore/broke off too easily to be very effective.
As long as you don't latch it open/closed a lot it will last...

Date adjusted after consulting a couple experts (thegoodedge being one).

It's pretty hard to date these! It's most likely 1980-1984, thus most likely a Bali-Song Inc. ('79-'83). For those curious like myself, the "latch gate" dates really can't be nailed down to much more than the early 80s; more likely they were one of the early workers special touches or something like that during that early era.

That is beautiful. Other than some of the Scrim work, the black slab Samsons are my favorite. Great find.

Checking one of the pictures, I do not see the ® next to the butterfly logo, so most likely I think it belongs to the Bali-Song era.

Based on personal experience, all the ones I have purchased back in start of the 80's (81-83), none have the R and the blades are slimmer compared to latter ones.

Still remember going to the US of A years ago and getting to see these Balisongs, nunchucks, and ‘death star’ in The Last Place On Earth in Duluth. Thanks for sharing.
