I was removing the blade of my benchmade 51 and found this small hole. Is this a counterfeit knife?

Yeah it seems like they are making an unnecessary weak point by doing this, but then again I've dropped mine a good few times without problem.

i have seen many that have the hole there ,best i could figure is it must be from the laser they cut it out with . maybe a mistake in their program?
i guarantee it is not a Rockwell/hardness mark. the Rc mark is usually a small dimple into the surface of the steel.

Maybe....the hole is there to help align the blade when boring the pivot holes...or...maybe...

I believe it is used to identify steel grade.

I't's called a "Tang Piercing". It's used to designate the blade steel before the blades are marked. But the markings are different for different models. One hole in a 51 blade means D2 steel, but one hole in another model might mean a different blade steel. 2 holes in a 43 blade means it's 154CM...etc.
