I ain't got no more Mom club.
Our Mother passed Friday morning , and I know a lot of us have been down this road.
It isn't a lot of fun.
And like many , it is sort of a relief.
She was in her home till the end.............84 years old.
Blinded by diabetes and piss poor management of it , frail as many her age tend to be.
But fiercely independent , and too proud to allow anything so small as being blind as a fucking bat be a deterrent to living her life , in her own way.
But the prospects of putting her in a home had come up in the recent past , and we were going to have to force her into some kind of change.
Whether it was moving in with one of us kids , or allowing a stranger to come in and monitor her vitals and help her out with some of the day to day stuff.
Which we tried before , and it didn't go well.
Shit , last winter , she got the flu and Judy and I moved in with her for a few days.
She hated that and she loves us.
One of my friends described her as " mean as a snake , and tough as a two dollar steak ".
That was pretty close to the truth.
Last Sunday , I took her out to dinner at a local place and I noticed she was more frail and having much more trouble getting around.
But kept her wits and her sense of humor till the end.
A s we were leaving , the place had a glass door , that opened to a 12 foot hallway , and ended with another glass door leading to the parking lot.
We got her through the first door , and it was dimly lit , but it was bright day light shining through the other door.
I leaned in and told her " Go to the light " .
That is how our senses fo humor run.........but I never got a chance for her to get me back.
What the fuck , Ma...........I was kidding. :tubtar::tubtar::tubtar:
It is a small measure of relief that she won't have to be forced into a situation that would probably have killed her anyway.
But I'd welcome any smoke , prayers and kind thoughts you'd care to throw her way.
Catherine Ann Stahley lived a good life.
She raised six boys and taught them well.
And I am going to miss her.

You have my deepest condolences John.

My mom is the same age and I've noticed her going "downhill" a bit myself. I fear I may be joining the club before too long.

I'll offer up some smoke and prayers for your mom and your family.

Enjoy your rest Catherine Ann Stahley ~ St. Catherine Ann Stahley!
She has to be a saint to have raised you and your brothers.

Sincere condolences John, this is a tough one. But remember -"People die twice, one time when they stop breathing and a second time when their name is mentioned for the last time.” I have a feeling Catherine will stay nearby for a long while.

    Smoke and prayers, Sir.

From experience, even when it's expected, it's always a difficult surprise.

Rather than mourn your loss, celebrate her life. It sounds as though that should keep you busy for years.

Mother is the world for most of us, is the first word we learn how to say and the last to forget, they give us tough love or they love us to much, we can never pay them back for all they've done, from wiping our ass to letting us go on our own, they suffered watching us make our own mistakes and love us even when we fuck up. my heart goes out to you John and your love ones as you go through your pain we all share tears for you, you are not alone brother, a big hug from NY and all my very best.
