Achim Wirtz is a knifemaker from Germany. His main "thing" is forging damascus, making wootz etc...

    Examples of his work:

    "Hjartbitir - Schmalsax"

Blade is made from a "sandwich" of damascus and Ultrafort steel. Fittings silver, handle old Sambar stag.

    "Skallensplitter"

51CrV4 steel, sambar stag handle slabs.

    "Outdoor Kitchen knife"

The idea was to make a kitchen knife that would hold it's own outdoors as well. 320 layers damscus blade, walnut burl handle.

    More to follow.

    Kind regards,

Beautiful knives! He tends to build a lot of big blades too, even gigantic ones. I guess he is one of the most knowledgeable guys about steel in Europe, and also very open in sharing his knowledge.

"Just" a picture thread... for now!

Somehow, I didn't get around buying one of Achims creations. But I will, eventually! (I do have some knives made with his damascus)

    Kind regards,

    Jos

A new dagger, recently finished by Achim Wirtz. (the dagger is not mine, pics by Achim himself)

He calls it "Hvalensang", a Norse dagger:

The Damascus Wizzard has conjured something new:

He calls it "Triple Feather" damascus. I call it "Psychadelic Zebra". :bwah:

It will be sold as material for bolsters. Man, I so want a knife with bolsters like that! [IMG]

    Kind regards,

    Jos :bacondancing:
