We still kissing this guys ass?

Les, you are a knife collector. You judge them that way.

Your judgment as a collector is impeccable.

Your knife using and related useability thoughts are, well, a knife collectors.

    I like this guy.

His magazine articles have introduced me to a number of new and old knife makers. I can’t believe the KNIFE has turned out to be such an in depth subject matter.

He also led me to believe that my knowledge of all things blade is pedestrian and immature. An accurate assessment for self analysis. That being the case, his magazine articles may suck and I would never know it.

Just messing with ya Les. :bwah::bwah:

Love your work and look forward to this here sub-forum!!!

    Hi Winter,

    Winter,

Yes, the ass kissing is continuing! LOL

As the saying goes..."The worst junkies become dealers!"

While I was part time (first 8-9 years) I was definitely "collector" based in what I sold.

Once I became full time...my horizons expanded. Primarily because it is difficult to get enough knives to do this full time.

However, I was able to keep my primary focus on what I like.

While at the same time I had to really examine the market to find out what other collectors like.

I appreciate you like my judgment. I think for the most part it is spot on.

    Hi Doc,

Thank you for reading my articles...that makes 2 of us! LOL

I have been involved with custom knives for over 26 years and I have found out two things:

    1) There is always more to learn.

    2) In many areas of custom knives my knowledge is pedestrian!

    I appreciate your comments.

    Hi D762nato,

    Thank you.

BTW, don't all dealers do trades? :D

Perhaps the most difficult part of being a custom knife dealer is trading.

As you can imagine it can be difficult to keep the prices of several thousand knives in your head!

Without a doubt the most difficult part is dealing with collectors who have:

    1) Over paid for a knife (usually bought in the aftermarket).

They expect me to honor the "price paid"...not the value of the knife.

    2) Think that they have the most incredible knife ever made.

Generally these knives are fairly butt ugly. The maker has no name or demand. And I am the Asshole trying to work them on the price when I won't trade.

This is why I go out of my way on forums, in person and in print to clarify:

    What a custom knife is.

Materials that are "trendy" and as such will have no demand in a few years.

The reality of buying a "flavor of the month" makers knife in the aftermarket.
    ==========================================================

To make a long answer longer....

    Yes, I take trades.

The knife has to be something I have a market for.

Shoot me an email and let me know what you have and what you are interested in.

    A Jim Hammond Flesheater?

When I was just out of college and FK was still being printed prior to the Larry Flynt meets Greg Walker debacle, the Flesheater was featured in the two-page quick-pic they used to do in the middle of the magazine, which was carried over the TK by Steve Dick.

It's not entirely my speed, but I always thought it was a really neat design and worked well.

If you have an AT Barr Dispatcher on tap.....

Amazing stuff as always, Les, not all of it stuff I relate to, but I can always appreciate it!
