Kimber 1911

Although I've never been a fan of Kimbers; one crossed my path today that I decided to have. I bought a Classic Custom, built in January, 2000 according to Kimber's Customer Service. It is considered to be a 1st Generation; although not a Klackamas gun, it does not have the Series 80 internals. For $499 it came with the box, papers, bushing wrench, and two none Kimber magazines. Interestingly they were a Taurus PT1911 and a Wilson. Here are two photos of the gun; I will post a range report when I get there. On a side note they had just received some Remington .380 jhp ammo, 100 rounds for $59.99; some older gentleman was in the process of stripping all 500 rounds off the shelf. I told him, thanks alot and he was insulted. Then he showed me, hidden behind some .38 Special, the last remaining box...asshole; at least I got 100 rounds.

I like it the way it is...adds character, but I would need some grips with woodgrain.
Really looking toward that range report on this one! Lots of pics please.

Negative!

Nothing wrong with a little white metal on a working gun, just keep it clean and wipe it down when you're done carrying/ shooting it.

I just like putting my own wear on a gun. Someone else's make it less desireable to me. I mean, I've bought some used guns but I try and go for the absolute cleanest least worn I can get. That's just me though.

grip change.

As some of you suggested, a different set of grips would change the look. I just happened to have some "wood burl" Crimson Trace grips for 1911. I didn't have any spare wood grips so these will work!

The Searles Bowie is by Michigan Maker (and a true gentleman) Ed Kalfayan. Here's another one, with a mirror finish and an African Blackwood handle. The handle on the other knife is Desert Ironwood.

You read my mind! Seriously, the CT grips on a 4" - 5" Kimber is one of my next purchases! Been looking at the Pro Covert 2 or the Custom Covert 2.

Looks great!

I have the plan black Crimson Trace grips on my Custom Classic, but now that I see those, I wish I had the "wood burl" I may need to try to sell mine and swap out.

I would change out the recoil spring ASAP. Then the firing pin spring after a trip to the range. Do you have any idea how many rounds went through it?
