    Cardoso Halloween Build Off 2011

I hesitated long time between straight razor, long and big fixed blade, enormous balisong/sword . Finaly i I decided to make something i don't do very often. A tang building and a dagger. I do dagger only for build off or something in that way. That is always difficult for me and i enjoy to try each time

I draw that fastly that morning

A piece of XC75 (more or less 1075), i draw in the middle of the centred edge

The various piece, the steel, stainless steel for gard, ebony, padouk and there will be a piece or two of leather.

The point has been cut with cutting disk, and put in shape with 60 grit belt.
The start of the edge is done with dremel carbide rotary burr.

The grind is done with Grit 60 and 120

I drilled four hole of 2mm in the steel, and i filed it I cut to the "right size".

The various part are drilled, i have to put the leather piece.

After two normalization, oil hardening and flash gold tempering

I cut the leather piece in the middle in order to be able to put the tang through it.
After that i epoxied the two paddouk pieces with the leather in the middle of the sandwich.

The grind is done, i completed to 240 grit and scotch brit fine belt. I'm quite unhappy the tempering was done yesterday and i didn't see the blade warped a little bit. That is not impressive, but that is always .......That won't put away the "quality of the blade".

I fixed the blade on a piece of wood with linoleum. I did an in line sanded with 500 grit sand paper and WD40 to lubricate. (that is at that stage i've seen the wrapping....)

    The blade is sanded

After to rectified each piece, i epoxied the knife. A blade, 1 stainless guard, 1 paddouk block, 1 leather piece, 1 paddouk block and a big piece of ebony.

After a first work on the 60 grit belt. That is in the same way than the draw i did

I hand sanded the handle with 100, 240 and 500 grit sand paper .

The blade is a bit polished.

In hand, that is really cooooooool .

I will do better picture when the knife will be fully completed. The next stage will be the leather sheath

Why i think in the JD theme, the color, red and black, the double edge give a sacrificial look to the knife

Cool as hell. I like that handle shape alot.

I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

I continu to do some strange thing

For the sheath, i intend to make something i never done and i think that will be a bit strange )

    ABS sheath

I folder a sheet of ABS in order to make the heart of the sheath.

I draw some fire on the top sheath piece. The leather is not smooth, that is what i wanted . That will have a rough look.

I cut the draw with a kiridashi, I cut a piece of red leather mineral tanned.

The back of the sheath. I glued the two piece of leather on the abs center.

After to have marked the point of the hole on the leather, i drilled through the four piece. I sewed with knot all the sheath. I used three pin in order to give more strength to the sheath.

    The back after sewing.

After i colored the leather with vinegaroon i did myself for the first JD build off .

I have to wait the full drying of the sheath before to recut and sanded a bit the side of the sheath.
That is not really nice, that is a bit strange but i think it will be quite functional and i wanted to tried to sew through the leather and the ABS

    WOW!

    The year just flew by.

    THIS IS GREAT!

I love watching these knives get made. Reminds me of how skilled some of the knife makers here at JDz are.

    Thanks for sharing...looking bad ass!
Mean what you say...say what you mean...and always...ALWAYS....keep your hand on your knife just in case.
