    DESO - whadaya think?

Alain just sent me these pix of his latest knife. He is a French Canadian knife maker who lurks at holics and occassionally posts. A while back he posted one of his creations without any explanations and I have been talking to him since. He says of this knife, which I am considering buying:

"Just finish this one, it is a new design, and I like it very much. No name yet, : tactical because of the double grind and the sweep on
the bottom grind, but could be for anything, allaround. 5 inches blade, ats-34, polish hollow ground with satin flat. handle in Black canvas micarta, with ss tube . come with a green kydex with tek-lok."

I think it is a nice, subtle knife, classy with the satin flats and polished grinds.

He's been trying to get a web site together, but I guess he's more involved in knives than the web. He's got a few more nice ones on the semi functional web site that he has up at http://www.desoknives.com

If you visited a while back when there were only about 6 tacticals up, he has now added several more. Looks like he does a real broad range of types and styles.

I think his stuff is reasonably priced for one-off hand made knives. He's asking under $300 shipped, complete, and eating the paypal fees for this one.

I like the style, the blade, the finish, the shape, But IMHO too many holes in the handle. You asked.
putting the FU in funny !

    Cool Cool!

Those are "Speed Holes". They make the knife 3x faster than any other knife out there. Plus it makes a cool whistling noise when you throw it. Fact!

Of course I might be making that all up what with medication mixing and all.

Meds or not, holes or not, I like it!

I'm digging it. Kind of a "tactical ocarina" look.

But seriously, it is really a nice design, but I'm with the less-is-more camp when it comes to holes.
Junkies down in Brooklyn are going crazy
They're laughing just like hungry dogs in the street
Policemen are hiding behind the skirts of little girls
Their eyes have turned the color of frozen meat

I think it looks pretty swank. Nice grinds, nice handles, and I feel the holes give it a distinct look (unless I'ma missin' something). I'll take it! This is a giveaway, right?

Thanks all. Bart, no problem, I was looking for honest comments, not for empty praise. I don't mind the holes myself, I like 'em fine. As to Brendish designs, I know that this guy posted at least one MT with a Brend blade, and he seems to be a very picky collector himself with some nice Brends. Although recurves are pretty common, this type of double grind is Brendy enough to make it seem like an homage. You know what they say about imitation.

As it happens, this knife was his next knife unspoken for, and pretty closely fills the bill for what I was looking for lately. I think I'm gonna buy it if he hasn't sold it already, and maybe give him a drawing for exactly what I want if I really like this one.

There are a lot of good knifemakers here, but there's something I like about this guy and the knives I have seen that he has made. He's real low profile, and might not be too much longer, who knows? Just call it a hunch - maybe not a good one, but what the hell. I think it's worth the price, and I like the grind, the size, and the polished grinds and satin flats.

    So, thanks for comments.
