    New Bike

I just purchased my first motorcycle. I am now the proud owner (along with the bank ) of a 2010 jet black Triumph Bonneville T100.

I took it out this morning for it's maiden voyage, practicing in a school parking lot two blocks from my house. Even though I have my license (I took a course in May), I am going to take my time getting comfortable and gaining skills before I go out on the road among cars.

    I will post pictures soon.

I love the retro look of the T100.

Congrats buddy Welcome to the few, the proud, the fucking awesome.

Motorbikes rock and really, you can never know how awesome till you get behind those handle bars and header on down the road.

    Sweet!
Now, I know the area where you live and the traffic and STUPIDITY that can be seen on a daily basis over there in Monkey county.
You really are better off out on the highway.

Take that sucker out on the beltway, then out onto 66, then down 81 and don't stop till you need gas. Really get used to it. As soon as I get my scoot, we can tear up the countryside.

    Thumbs up Your Triumph

Good luck. I had several triumphs starting with a 250cc Cub and moving up. They used to be, and probably still are, neat bikes.

    A couple of points:

    1) There are old bikers and bold bikers... but very few old, bold bikers. Accidents on bikes are VERY unforgiving.

    2) ALWAYS assume that the person in the car has not seen you and will not see you. That is all too often the case! Never relax! They will pull out of a crossing street right into your path as though you and your headlight are not there.

    3) Think fro a moment about camo. Camo is different sized, ramdom blotches of a variety of colors. Too many bikers wear what amounts to camo! Wear clothes and a helmet that is the same color! Make your visual image big and bright and eye catching! Might that make you look like a dork? Maybe but that is far preferable to being road kill.

    4)

Pictures Will Have to Wait a While

So this is embarrassing, but perhaps cathartic. Monday afternoon, the second day with my bike, I managed to have a "low side" accident. I was making a left turn after being stopped at in intersection just riding around in my neighborhood. I made two mistakes. One concerns what I did technically wrong in the turn. The other was a bigger mistake - not practicing something I had been having trouble with in a parking lot more before going out on the street.

X-rays Tuesday morning showed no fractures. My left ankle is swollen, black & blue (really ugly), and painful. My left knee and left forearm have road rash. My bike has some damage that I will get fixed. Turn signals, things like that. I drove the bike home from the accident scene, which is a good thing.

I wish I could have gotten back on the bike the next day. As I kid, I took horseback riding lessons. My instructor said that nobody is a good rider until they've been thrown off at least three times. I exceeded that and understood what she meant, and I became a pretty good rider. I think I'll make this my last fall on a motorcycle, though. They hurt way more than being thrown from a horse and are more expensive.

Once the bike and I are healed, I will ride again, but this time I will restrict myself to empty parking lots until I am well-versed in all of the street maneuvers I will need out on the road.

I am thankful for my wife for her understanding my desire for the bike, for not being mad at me when I fell, and for understanding why I need to get back on the bike as soon as I can.

Sorry, but LOL! What you did is how I picture what I would be doing. Best of luck on healing and getting back up on the bike. Do you have some experienced friends you could ride with?

well that sucks! at least you are ok....
I personally have never dropped a bike...but, from seeing people who have to overcome any fear the best thing to do is get yourself back on it and ride...
