Picked this up yesterday. The new US manufactured Steyr AUG. Read some very promising things about it and can't wait to get it to the range to try out. Threw some Troy tritium iron sights on it till I can afford a good optic

Very nice!! Its on my list, good score! Let us know how you like it. Rover don't you have MSAR as well? I would love a side by side comparison if you do.
It is not the Death Rattle in the throat of Western civilization which is surprising: it is the fact that millions of Americans believe that the death rattle is a beautiful song!
No MSAR, you might be thinking of my PS90.
I was interested in the MSAR but have a friend who had a trouble with one and then found this.

Let us know what you think once you have had a chance to break her in

Art, that's a nice little shooter (I hope)
Never was a fan of the Microtech thing, so here' hoping she shoots well and reliably.
Are these still using proprietary mags, or did someone realize AR mags are plentiful, reliable and cheap, as well as everywhere?

Proprietary in the sense that it takes the same mags since its developement in 1978. I dont see why Steyr should have to change things up now that they finally figured out how to make the AR platform workI kid, I kid. Yeah it takes the regular AUG mags. Aside from the rail its classic AUG, which I think is cool. I don't know about the MSAR, think Microtech did their own thing for their mags.
Steyr does make a NATO stock so it can accept AR mags but I'm picky with mags and would end up buying the pricey AR mags anyway.

True enough, and I buy only what I consider good mags for a 1911. The XD has it's own magazine and those I do not complain about.
Let us know how she runs.

I've had one since the first production run....very tight to begin with but no issues at all. I do hate the flash hider though. I with they used the original Tulip or at least an A2 hider so my HALO can would work.
The really nice thing is parts are now available again...being an AUG owner several years back was a lot more difficult.
Now I haven't tried dropping my FA carrier and sear pack into it...but probably won't since that is set up in a special receiver version right now.
Rover...I do like the sight setup you , let me know how that works with the short sight radius. Mine is optics only, a 3x25 IOR tactical with a Burris Fast fire on top for short range.

Yeah, the sight setup was my broke as hell answer for optics (had some nice Troy tritiums laying around from an old AR build and thought I'd give them a try). I tried an Eotech (AA with thumbscrew) I have but it skins your fingers and messes with the bolt hold open. Might give the Aimpoint M2 in the pic a try but I need a good mount for it first.

Hmm, that nixes my arms mount idea for the Aimpoint M2. Good to know before I spent $130.
Do you happen to have a pic of your optic setup? Been looking for info on what people are using on this low pic rail and I'm not seeing much outside of Acogs.
Also do you know anything about the factory sling? Is is supposed to go on the rifle as its packaged (sort of doubled up)? Seems a bit short. Not a biggee, eventually going to put something else on but I'm curious about it.
Thanks!

I'll try to take some pics over the weekend. I don't use the factory sling, currently have a custom one my friend made for me.
