Cardoso JD Halloween Build Off 2010 Fixed Blade Project

I have though to my project since some time and that is the small sheme i did yesterday.

It will be a "small devil cutter".

17 cm sharp (6.7") if i succeed to heat treat a so long blade.
With i hope a sharp swedge of 4 cm (1,57") (if i succeed to grind it correctly

)
29 cm long (11.41")
The heel will be pointy and hardened to be able to break the jaw of any thing you want

Full tang building
W2 (if Aldo Bruno is OK to send some steel to France), if not, i will probably use 100C6
My usual (the one i use only for JD build off ) Micarta and carbon fiber. I intend to toxified the micarta and keep the carbon fiber clean in order to create a contrast. But that is part of the project that could be change during the developement.
Probably ugly home made mosaic pins a i'm used to make them

I want to make a nice hamon on that one.
I don't have already decided between hollow grind and flat grind, maybe full flat grind. I don't know.

Now the awfull draw (i think i'm better with a grinder than with a paper pen)

I'm not sure, i was thinking to work in stock removal for that one. That will be function of my mood when i will start the project

. My new forge is long enough now to forge that style of knife

First stage

A lot of people would have begun by cutting the blade

.

I began by making my mosaic pins:semper: (sorry the two first picture was taken with my cell phone)

As always that is rough.
Material, brass tube, piece of electrical cable that i found in the street, brass nail (found in the street too)
A tin soldering wire and a propane torch.

A piece of oak wood drilled partially at 6mm to receive the brass tube.

The piece of copper are put in force in the tube, the propane torch, and the tin soldering wire. I heat the brass tube and by capillarity the tin melted and filled the tube.

After to have been grinded and polished. They aren't perfect, but they are made by myself and that is the most important for me. I prefer to make the most of thing possible even if it's not perfect

(and next time i will think to degreased the brass tube before to make my soldering

)

The next step will be probably to cut the blade
