Excellent rifle. Well balanced, less recoil than you'd expect, and the compensator is very effective. Just don't stand next to one.
A little front heavy --- I like my SOCOM 1 a bit better.
Pic of it in a BM59 Nigerian wood stock;
I own/owned about EVERY battle rifle in .308 made --- HK91 , BM59 , M1As ,etc. etc. --- the SA SOCOM has the BEST muzzle break/compinsator that the factory ever put on a rifle ---- it is LOUD but the recoil is soft![]()

I'm sporting wood for the BM 59! Sweeet!
One Two, thru and thru
the Vorpal Blade went snicker snack,
He left it dead and with the head
came galumphing back!
I was a gun shop today and the guy had one left he sounded kinda of like a used car slaeman lol the price seemed kinda of high at 2000 bucks I rember like 2 years ago they were like 1600 bucks he said they are gettin harder and harder to get. And he said springfield got a contract with the goverment so all the socom2s they are building now are goin to the troops
I own a SOCOM II and a Loaded M1A.
The socom II is a sweet gun and I think were can agree the 308 is a No Joke round. After 20 rounds you can turn cover into concealment.
If the price is right and you can afford it I'd buy one. But know this feeding it is like feeding a teenage football player it costs MONEY.
I relaod for it and it is still pricy.
Hope this helped

Like Dabird says, you cant beat that price. I traded a Goden Eagle .300 weatherby mag., plus a couple hundred cash for my M1a1 scout. Best damn trade I've ever made. He wanted 1400.00 for it. So I think 1300 is a steal.
This gun shoots so smooth. I shot bullseye my 3rd or 4rd round ever shot from this gun by me. The rest of the rounds were grouped nicely at 100 yds.
I do have an issue with this gun, which Dabird is helping sort through. Every 8th round or so, the spent shell wont eject. He states it could be a problem with the ejector or the ejector spring. I was using Winchester .308 target rounds ; cant remember what grain.
I'm going clean it up real good; by diff. ammo, then go from there.
For you, If you have the cash, jump on it. You wont regret it.
What in the name of god is going on with the dogs in that signature! Scary stuff man.
I got to spend a little time with a SOCII awhile back. I was shocked by three things. First the weight...heavy little bugger...but nothing you can't handle...it just surprised me. The second was well it handled. Pointed nice and natural...and quick...with the weight you wouldn't think so. Lastly...the recoil and muzzle rise. I was expecting some serious flip but no way...easy to get back on target quickly. Not sure if it was the break or the weight that made it so. Anwyay...the few mags I put through one made me a believer. Given the choice though...the purist in me would still take a full size standard M1A...or better yet....slap that standard M1A in a nice SAGE EBR chassis...nice.
