...and I had no where else to post about how awesome they work so I joined up here. I kept reading about how much easier wheels were and wow. I had been using oil stones and I was getting bored using them on harder steels. Also, hello.

welcome to the JD

Yeah, I used the compound that came with the wheels. It's a white jewelers rouge for the polishing wheel. The grit wheel requires some wax to help keep things cool.

That's the brand I bought and it was available at the local Woodcraft store but I just happened to walk in on the last day before they closed  I didn't get a deal either. If I had to do it again, I'd go here http://www.grizzly.com/products/G5937, they dropped their price recently and its a very good price even with shipping.
As for using the wheels I basically used the polishing wheel to touch up some already sharp knives and made them sharper. I had some dull knives that I tested the grit wheel on and I was able to rejuvenate them way quicker than I normally would have.
There is a guy over at the other forum that is a 17 year believer/user in these things and after reading his posts and others for awhile I got convinced. I am using them on a bench grinder that I took the covers off of and it spins at 3400 RPM. He uses a slower spinning 1725 rpm motor and I see why because there is little room for error on the grit wheel. I also took his advice and only mounted one wheel at a time because before it was running I was rubbing my arm on the other wheel while practicing my technique.
In the meantime I am going to build a knife sharpening machine to use these wheels, which is similar to what the dude from the other forums uses, with the 1/2 HP 1725 RPM motor I found.
Either way, it takes only a few minutes to sharpen now and I still like sharpening on my oil stones for some nice calm activity but when I want a nice polished razor edge I'll definitely go to the wheels.
