Thread: A.G. Russell Acies Titanium Frame Lock?

The knife looks nice (except the thumb ramp IMO) but then I followed the link and saw the price! Wow - I did expect a bit less - that is for sure.

I think I read the specs somewhere and the handle length is only 4 1/2.

Thats 1/4" shorter the the lg seb.I have to have that 1/4".

Is 4 1/2" too short for you ?

nice knife, i think the reason it slips a lot it's because it rests so low, your don't have much space for the fingers to grab.

    Hi clockman -

No, it is not for me. I see people saying that they have "extra-large" hands - I wear and XL or XXL glove (depending if it is American made (xl) or european (xxl) ) and I consider my hands pretty average for men in the area I live.

The Acies seems just right, and disappears in your pocket.

It has still been my constant companion. I have "tuned" the pivot screw only one time and it is rock solid, smooth and locks up with no blade play in any direction.

    Still lovin' it!

    best regards -

I think this could use some midifications! How about a totally "strider-esque" g-10 scale on the top scale? That would be a cool mod and make it even more "tacti-cool"

Meh. I kinda like mine the way it is. If I could get a Ti liner with a Carbon Fiber scale... well then we'd be talking.

at $375 I can't imagine you'd be better off buying one over a Sebenza. suppose it's an option for people who dislike the way Sebenzas look.

i really like the blade profile, but for 375$ it doesnt have the same allure as a sebenza to me. granted, i have never handled the knife, but based on looks alone it doesnt look like it is on par with a sebenza, maybe the leech like clip has something to do with that. A sub 300$ price tag might help change my mind.

Well, it's not really just a looks thing. The Acies offers tip up / tip down carry, stock dual thumb studs, and the Hinderer Lockstop. It also offers the flat ground blade in ZDP-189, which I feel is far superior to CRK's hollow ground S30V blade.

If you want to rock a flat ground ZDP-189 blade you can get a carbon fiber
Spydie Stretch for $140. Freaking gorgeous knife that slices like a razor.

True. None of which are important to me except for the flat grind which is, I guess, why I glanced over them.

Had one. Sold it. Then I bought the FRN version. It's another great work knife. Extremely sharp FFG blade. The Acies and the Stretch are in two different leagues though.

That's just ZDP-189. A comparison between ceramic and ZDP-189 isnt really a comparison at all. Apples and oranges. With the proper heat treat CPM-154 can get to about RC 61-63. I don't understand why a hardness of 64-66 is a bad thing. I had one of those Boker ceramic knives, but got rid of it. How the hell do you sharpen those things without sending them away?

Maybe I'm in one of those phases where I can't see anything wrong with the knife I purchased. Actually, I think the Acies is just a great knife and I'll keep defending it. Anyone who has handled the knife really likes it. A couple guys have handled it and then decided to purchase one. I don't know what I have to do to convince people that the Acies is not a Sebenza and the the ZDP-189 blade kicks ass. If I had the cash I'd buy another and do a passaround so that all the naysayers could stop saying nay. If you guys could just handle one and use it for a little while you'd understand. I know, I know... You don't care to handle one because you already own a Sebenza. Why would you ever need to buy another knife for the rest of your life?
