    Microtech currahee knife blanks $35

check out these currahee d2 knife blanks, of the few ad's for them they say they are guaranteed authentic microtech D2, but they arent hardened or ground at all? comes with micarta scales to fit but no hardware. TRASH???

Id love to play with one if I could grind it somehow! I think you can oil quench or something...be fun to get a knife kit of any sort, or a balisong kit...

So what you get is a piece of D-2 that is just profiled for $35.
Whether it's from Microtech or not doesn't make any difference, it's still a piece of D-2.
I would rather buy a strip of D-2 and do the profiling myself too, cheaper as well and your not stuck with the design.

If you don't have the equipment for a proper heattreat, don't mess with it yourself.
DIY heattreating can be done quite well on simple carbon steels but D-2 is not that.

See if you can pick this one up for a dollar.

Then send it to a knife maker of your choice for the grind of your choice and their choice of heat treat and finish.... and then when the bill comes through... you can wonder why you didn't just get them to make you a knife from scratch.

Those blade blanks have been floating around Ebay for quite a while now.

Personally... I'm not a fan of D2 for a knife.

yeah I do actaully like the currahee design, and to get a chisel ground one or a real steep like 1/2 grind basically making a tanto prybar thatll chop I think would be interesting.

Especially on the ones bidding at $10, wonder if you could use a flat metal file to grind d2, says 13RC, sounds soft to me? bueller?

i guess I should search for specific details about d2 heat treat.

If I could make two faux-currahee for $60 Id be pleased

    No problem.
It does take some learning to do a clean and crisp bevel and ricasso line.
    Do a search on ''drawfiling''.

This is D-2, filed and handfinished.
