a bit more on the bench.
1. pic is of something i always wanted to try,a milled fuller.
2. looks ok,but i need sharper ball end mills.this is another new model, spawned from the same design.
3. the Bounty Hunty Template with 2 big brothers.i wanteda mid-size outdoor tac knife so stretched the B H to a 6 in blade with a slightly longer handle.and did the fuller that i was supposed to do on the Supersize B H.
4. milled slots in this pile of Bonebreakers for half-guards [i'll post wip pics of these as i work on them].there's 6 blades here.3 of which my father wants to finish for some pals of his so i'm doing the grunt work.

Very nice Harm! I love lighter ironwood. It usually has much more character
Your site looks great. You sure have a lot of great models to choose from.
Your Dad's knives are gorgeous. Does he do the artwork also?
when did you do the heat treatment?![]()
thanks guys.
Ricky, the scrimshaw is by Nkosi Jubane [http://www.kgsa.co.za/memberprofile....&knife_id=467] who is a very talented scrimshander.engraving and gold inlay is by Elke Hanley or Armin Winkler.but my dad is learning engraving.
my brother is re-doing the website, new site should be up in a few weeks.
abertzale, the heat treat on the 2 Pikal Sharks were done before i started this thread.1st pics in this thread are of the blades after hardening.

i do my own heat-treating,which i feel is best for for my blades, and i control all steps of the production.the commercial heat-treat places here are geared for industrial heat-treating,and knives are done by the way.only 1 place that i know of in Durban does "vacuum hardening",so the hardened blade has no scaling but the blades are done in batches with other stuff and does not always come back straight, and all knives sent do not come back with consistant Rockwell hardnesses.
i've been hardening my own knives since i started making them,i have a "feel" for hardening the steels i use,and 5 years back acquired a hardness tester and i check the hardness on every blade to ensure consistancy.i feel this is more important than ease of finishing.
i do regrind after hardening,to remove the mill-scale,true up the grinds, finish grinding is done with fine belts,so i'm not hand-rubbing black blades.
the pic in post no 10 shows the 2 Pikal Sharks after they've been reground
