Hi Ben,

I suspect it is...imagine if every person on JD actually used their name. Then they would be held accountable for their words on this forum.

Im sure it would eliminate most of the smart ass remarks, insults, etc. That the anonymity of a screen name does nothing to inhibit.

Years ago I asked the person who started another knife forum the same question "why screen names and not real names". He replied...we would get a lot fewer people to sign up.

My response was, yes but those who did would all be contributors to the forum, instead of many "nameless" people who contribute little or nothing...other than to keep moderators busy.

Imagine how much more you could learn about any subject on a forum if you knew the person you were talking to...actually knew what they were talking about. As opposed to merely parroting some other information they heard from yet another nameless person on another forum....who probably didn't know what they were talking about.

That being said, why do you think real names are a bad idea Ben?

I was just joking around with you, as we both use our real names in online dealings.

I do like the idea. The whole mass behind the "anonymous" movement scares me. They are too powerful and willing to cause utter destruction in whatever path the go.
