Thread: Got my first Auto

    Got my first Auto

Wendy wasn't thrilled when I grabbed a Lone Wolf Double Action.

I had never even held an auto before this knife. WOW--you can't even tell it is an auto. The scales look great and the knife works smoothly whether in "regular" mode or auto.

Too bad I can't carry it off my own property!

I'd say that you solved your own dilemma with that statement right there. I would assume that you're not the type that takes an auto out in front of anybody just to snap it open.

As long as you are using the manual opening other than when you feel a need to use the auto function, you are quite safe to carry it. Every cop I work with knows that I'm a knife enthusiast and none of have ever handled a D/A. They can all spot an auto, but some of them consider assisted knives as autos. It's all in perception and personal definition of the law.

Sadly, most knife laws are written in a vague manner to be translated broadly for LEOs to define as necessary. But a cop confiscating an assisted Kershaw Leek from Walmart off of a punk kid as opposed to a Lone Wolf (that appears to be manual knife) off of you will be viewed very differently.

Use your personal discretion with carrying anything... Including just a simple screwdriver. It's not necessarily the item that is looked upon negatively, it is the pausible intentions that are percieved that are the main issue for LEOs.

I say, have fun with your great new knife and enjoy it!

I carry 2 autos every day. Just don't do stupid shit to attract attention and you are fine. I have nothing but the GREATEST respect for law enforcement, but unless its obvious that its an auto 99% of them will NEVER know. When my house was robbed, fucker took my 1997 DA socom and a shitty leverauto. When they caught him and went to give me back my stuff, they pulled the leverauto "I've never seen that before officer" and let me take the socom(which is on my right hip. I guess what I'm saying is don't be a dick and you will be fine. A Lone Wolf da auto is GOOD TO GO as a EDC!

Why is it acceptable for you to be an asshole, but un-acceptable for me to point it out?

how did they not know the socom was an auto? Its not like the button is hidden. Thats crazy. You would have thought they would have atleast tried pressing it since they found it with a lever type auto. Glad to see you got that one back

You would have to absolutely know what you were looking for to be able to tell that the DA is actually an auto. All the same, it will just be for around the farm.

I , being a man of principal ....... and frequent scofflaw , carry an auto everywhere.
The key is to not be doing gangster shit , or otherwise attracting attention to your self.
I have packed in most of Europe with no problems.
I was more worried entering Canada with autos.
But I will not be denied.
And my gut feeling is that if I am found out , the worst I will have to deal with is making a contribution to the officer's personal knife collection.
    This has happened once before.

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

    several

I live in Alabama. Autos are legal here. EXCEPT concealed! All you want to have at home. You can carry it open (belt sheath) but not concealed! UNLESS you have a CCW. Luckily, I have had a CCW for 28 years. And I need to renew yearly (this week, actually).
The only condition for a concealed auto is no concealed within 100 yards of a protest! Yet, open carry, it's OK. Same for firearms, except this. Open carry is legal, but you can't transport a firearm in a car, CONCEALED without a CCW. Yet, you can carry a firearm in a car OPENLY all day long! Some silly laws. I guess some Alabama Liberal (yeah we have a few) did manage to get THAT into law, many years ago. 1978, I think.
Oh, I forgot. I have three Buck 110 autos, two DA's and an OLD single action round button. A Gerber 06, a Shrade Snody, five various Boker Klads in all blade styles (even a reverse Tanto, one I converted myself) and my favorite EDC, A Spyderco Embassy.
No OTF's yet, but thinking hard. Right now, I am collecting fixed blades from makers here and from Blade Forum. I am also looking for a S&W 629 in a 2 or 4", AND a Marlin 44mag lever gun. If anyone has them for sale, let me know. I haven't had a chance to put that in the right forum, but will in a couple of days.
