Balisongs

Thinkin' about balisongs.... They dont seem too popular here on the JD so that makes this a great place to ask a question.

What do you not like about balisongs?

I ask this not to hate on the bali's but to figure out new ideas for an old thought.

What say you?

I don't like how from the first time I held one they took ahold of my soul and wouldn't let go. I don't like how they have just about emptied my mad money account and I still want more. I don't like how I have had to sell some custom bali's to add to my ever growing Benchmade Balisong collection. I don't like that they are illegal for NO GOOD REASON. On that same note I don't like that sheeple think they are so very, very, dangerous.

Les, I like the old school milled steel handle PCC/ BM bali's. Ti just does not swing right for me.

The t-latch is the only way to go with one of these. Anything else is a gamer's knife. The t-latch is easy to unhook really fast and maintains the same grab on the knife for popping the latch and opening it.

I carried a PCC for a few years, actually, currently I just prefer the one-handed folder with a clip or better yet a simple fixed blade. However, a nice well-made and simple bali is great.

I've currently got a BM30, BM35, BM45 (steel and 12c27) as well as a Kimura. If I could find a way to maintain the simple carry of a 30 or 45 relative to a Sebenza, I'd carry a bali no sweat.

That the general public is so fucking scared of them that they are going to be completely outlawed soon where I live.
For all the rest, they are a brilliant design and a lot of fun.
Would be a shame if they'd become extinct.
It's a a piece of cultural heritage for fucks sake.
The UN should defend it.

I actually like them although I only have one cheapo which I never mess with. Just watching people 'flicking' their balisong makes me nervous. I know I'd 'blink' and probably cut myself!

Really. I like what your doing man, I wish I could do something about it. But I agree with Parker on the t-latch thing, but the Ti ones flip fine for what skill I have (not much) with one. And for God's sake no damn pocket clip!!!

The less said about the laws outlawing them the better....

I love balisongs. I have a few and like to flip them from time to time. Unfortunatley my one dislike is that they already are illegal up here in Canuckistan.

I love Balis...but since they are illegal to carry here , I do not own any other than a cheap de-edged one I flip the heck out of .

If we're talking dislikes, then it would be thin bladestock and flat handles. Give me .150" thick blade and rounded handles and I'm generally pretty happy. I personally like the spring latch, but it's annoying having to use two hands to close it.
