Thread: What would you do?

    What would you do?

The other night I came home to find two squad cars parked in front of my neighbor's house. I stream a police scanner feed that archives all traffic, so I hit the archive and discovered that one of my neighbors mongrel children (the 3 year old) had been found unattended in a park by a body of water near our houses. The good Samaritan knocked on the neighbors door, there was no answer so the police and subsequently CPS were called. Later that night I saw the child being loaded into what appeared to be their grandparent's vehicle as I drove by.

As I'm sure you all have gleaned I'm not very fond of these neighbors and their lackadaisical parenting which results in children running loose and making general pests of themselves. I have been enjoying the peace and quiet all week but something is bothering me. There is a sticker with a business name and phone number on one of their vehicles, the name led me to assume it was a child care facility and a reverse look up of the number confirms my suspicion. This is where my battle of conscious begins. Would it be vindictive and petty of me to call and inform this business that one of their employees had a visit from CPS, or would it be the responsible thing to do? I keep thinking that if I had a kid there I would want someone to inform the business, but then I stop and wonder if I'm just being a jerk off trying to rub salt into my neighbors wounds.

Figured this was the place to ask, y'all seem to have level heads and good opinions. Please advise me as what to do, call the company and allude to there being an issue and leave it to them to investigate, or do nothing.

Thanks in advance for the help,
    Neb

if i had to send my kid to a child care facility, i would definitely want to know if one of the caretakers had their own child taken by CPS......

if they think so little of their own child, what kind of "care" would they be providing to a total stranger's child???

i would probably say something, but i would try to stay anonymous......having beef with people who live within shouting distance is never a good thing.....

i wouldn't go as far to say that it would be your responsibility to say something, but it would definitely be a "solid" you are doing for the patrons of that child care service......

I'd call from a payphone so it can't be traced.

    yiah.

i was always overprotective as a dad. i now have a 17 year old son who kinda rolls his eyes when he remembers how his dad was a little over the top when it came to accountability and looking out for his health and welfare . . . but the bottom line is that he's 17 years old and rolling his eyes, not a picture on the side of a milk carton, or worse.

    make the call.

Called and talked to a very informed owner. I was assured that the person in question was and has never been an employee of the child care center, only that they sent their kids there on occasion. The owner thanked me for the call but she already knew about the situation and had everything well under control. She actually got quite irate when I told her that her business's sign was plastered on the neighbors car and quickly ended our conversation.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm glad I called and it turns out the owner already knew what I was going to say. Kudos to the daycare for keeping on top of things.

kudos to you for being proactive......had the balls to actually do something, rather than just talk about doing something......

Good thinking, and agree with boots, glad you actually did it instead of just talking.

and who knows, maybe somewhere down the line some parent whose kid goes there will (without even knowing it) be glad you were so proactive.

Junky Parents like that should be put in prison instead of just losing their kids for the freedom they wanted! Punch the father in the head several times untill he curls up like a girl.

Good job calling! ..as a parent who has a child in daycare..I would deff want a fucker like this to lose their job and never work with kids again! But since thats not the case a beating is due!

Then again... the way a lot of daycares are these days... the owner could have been full of shit simply because she didn't want the complaints to go any further. You have to ask yourself... How did the owner already know about the situation? Why would a non-employee be sporting the daycare info on their vehicle? Maybe it is a "family thing", and the magnetic signs are supposed to be removed every evening... you know... liability shit.

You raise a few interesting points.

The owner knew because my neighbor is a dirt bag piece of shit that went crawling to the owner for money after cps took their kids, she played the "I need money to get my kids back from cps card". Needless to say the owner didn't give her any money and this is all info the owner volunteered to me, I didn't even have to mention the event in question. I called asked to speak to the owner and then asked the owner if my neighbor was working for her and she went off into a tirade. I really doubt that the owner was trying to cover their ass. My neighbor and the owner are of different nationalities so I doubt it's a family thing, and as far as removing the sign every night... they got their kids taken away by cps is that tells you anything about how well they manage their affairs.

Don't get me wrong... you made a good call, but something is very fucking whack about that situation. I don't know... call me paranoid, but it still seems kind of strange to me that the shitbags would go and ask for money from somebody they hardly know, or from a business that only watches their kids every once in a while... it's also very weird that the shitbags would have the daycare signs on their vehicle in the first place. I mean... why would someone want to impersonate a daycare driver? Yeah... something is definitely wrong with that situation. I wouldn't be surprised if later on, your neighbor wants to have a few words with you over that call... then you'd know exactly how the info got relayed.

BTW... I'm a scanner head too... what software are you using to stream?
    Gonna miss you, SugarSkull.
