    Thumbs down Damn Goodyear tires!!

Did anybody besides me try and watch that disaster at the Brick Yard today? First race that I've been able to watch flag to flag, and they pull this shit. The track is a 100 years old, I'm sure SOMEBODY at Goodyear can find it, do some testing, and make a tire that can go 20 laps at the joint...or not?

At least Kyle Bush didn't win.

and after that Michelin incident a couple of years ago, maybe this track isn't suited for NASCAR racing.

Speaking of the U.S. Grand Prix, I thought that it was pretty bad that Michelin pulled out because there tires couldn't take the pressure exerted by the car at a certain speed in a certain corner. That is like saying I won't race because I have to slow down for the turns. Why didn't they just warn the drivers to slow down to X speed for the corner, instead of pulling out of the race. Bridgestone didn't have any trouble by the way. BTT Tires don't seem to have kept up with the racing machines.

That was the IRL gang... At least they have a couple of brands of tires to chose from.

The Nascar gang race on plenty of flat tracks...not ones as big as Indy, but you would think they could find something to hold up... Its pretty bad that they kept having to get out the streetsweper to clean up all the tire dust. I've never heard them talk about teams running out of tires before the race is over. I hope heads role at Goodyear this AM.

I'm becoming less and less of a fan of the new car every race. What a POS!

I missed the begining of the race and when i turned it on I heard them say "we have 6 laps left til the next competition yellow" I looked at my wife and said "I thought today was the the brickyard? competition yellow? I do not believe this shit."
I did not even watch the whole thing, I stayed in for 3 competion yellow's and was done...

What is a "competition yellow"? Has nothing to do with Chinese cars.... does it?

Competition Yellow is something NASCAR came up with for the teams to check the wear on tires. And to try to minimize accidents due to tire failure.

What is it with the Brickyard??? I don't remember this shit last year!

One thing's for sure, I've never seen a race like yesterday's before!
And I hope to never see another like it again!

Does it allow slower cars to catch back up with the leader?

Its just like any other yellow, its just everybody knows when its coming.... So, the only thing the crews could do was make sure they had enough tires to finish the damn thing... ZZZZZ... Everybody was scared to race, wondering when a tire was gonna go. It was like watching a parade lap most of the time...

And then NASCAR released another set of tires with 33 laps to go just to make sure everyone could finish...
I was not impressed with yesterday' s race either and I agree MACK i do not want to see anther like it either...
I am fine with competition yellows at the allstar race or bud shoot out but not the rest of the season...

On the pre-race show they were talking about how the cars were set up to "crab".... the car body looked like it was at a slight angle when going down a straightaway, not perfectly aligned. They said it helped the cars go into the corners better.

This was the first time I ever heard "crabbing" mentioned. maybe this caused the tire problems. They didn't say the track was resurfaced since the last race and all was OK then.

Anyone else catch the crabbing comments?

I missed the "crab" thing...who said that? The coverage I saw said the opposite. Neutral weight till they go into a corner, then overload the right side because this new car is a pig, and so much heavier than the old one.

I know they did that "diamond tread" thing to pavement. I think they did it to improve grip, and it looks like they got to much of a good thing....

Go to hear from you Al!

I got to see the last part of the suck-ass race. Crabbin' has been done for years, just more so noticeable and talked about now. When my dad started racing back in "75" it was a common set-up practice. If you look at a winged sprint car the side pannels of the wing are off set elevation from the center to create more surface area for sideways airflow. That's the reason why a winged sprint can travel through a corner much faster than a stockcar or an unwinged sprint. As for the tires they were usin' I didn't see them but were they grooved or siped?

Nope. Slick as a baby's butt...and about as soft I guess. I bet people are STILL getting tire dust out of various places...

Compound and mixture musta' been the culprit then. Back in the early "80's" McReary came out with a compound that they called the plastic tread. Well, it was fine on a cold wet track but as things got hotter and harder they got shreded, just like a rubber
