    Snap Setters

I've been using the hammer/anvil setter for some time now but now I find myself in need of one of those lever action benchtop models. I checked out the one at Tandy, although nice it seemed a little pricey. Anyone have any suggestions? Though shipping might eat up all the savings from getting a cheaper one from a supplier out of town.

    Thanks!

About a month ago I got the Craftool press from Tandy. It hurts less if you have a business account with them. I got dies for lines 20 and 24 snaps and 1/4" eyelets. It makes the rolled side of eyelets look real nice and I'm glad I got it! The line 24 die set works on pull the dot snaps too. Do it and never look back.

    Heres the one. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/p...number=3990-00

    It seems pretty sturdy.

I need to pull down the Weaver catalog and see what they have to offer. Sonetimes I've found better tools for less expense there. My strap end punches were a lot cheaper for the same thing, but in other areas Tandy beats the snot out of them.

Cool, its good to see some feedback on the actual tool I'm looking at. With the dies I need its going to sting a bit.

I have to place a reorder with them in the next couples days. I'll see what I can find out about a better than list price for you.

If you care, and if memory serves, the craftool dies have 3/8" shanks and probably fit in other presses (and vice versa).

Great question! The place I got some at seemed to be high. Each section cost me an average of .25 cents, That makes each snap right at a dollar each. Durable Dots are .15 for the snap, stainless and solid brass being .25 and .35 respectively. Wonder why the Pull the Dots are so much more expensive?

Snaps in general would make a great thread I think...... hint hint "note to self, start new thread"
