    Top 10

My friends and I have been chewing over a question for the last few weeks now and thought I would throw it out to the forum to see if anything interesting comes out of it.

Question is: If you had to pick only 3 knives to have, what would they be? My thinking is 1 chopper/machete, 1 fighter, 1 small knife.

For me it's 1) Busse Fat Fusion Battle Mistress
    2) Cold Steel Black Bear Classic
    3) Fallkniven F1

The aim of this thread is to maybe highlight some knives that have gone unnoticed, and to possibly educate a few people to different styles of knife out there (myself included).

Post pics if you got em.

My choices would be a Busse Batacle for heavy duty work. A Bark River Bravo-1 for hiking and camping use. Last I would choose a Busse Game Warden for edc duty around town. These would get me by, but I would still want more

Of course you realize that picking just 3 is just damn near impossible! But for now I'll go with (top to bottom): a Buck 112 auto for the little stuff; a J. Neilson 'Big Claw' for the big stuff; and a Bark River 'Teddy Hunter' for everything else in-between.

    What the fuck, I’ll play.

Here are a few that I would choose.

BRK&T “Bay de Noc Camp Knife” with African Leadwood scales.

Bob Dozier Custom “Housatonic Hunter” with Dall Sheephorn,

BRK&T “Blackwater Boot Knife II” in Sambar Stag.

    Rogue Bowie

    Bravo-1

    Little Creek

    All Bark Rivers of course

Of course, you do realize that the original question is positively and absolutely absurd don't you?

My choices would be, (at this moment),
Himalayan Imports older Sanu made YCS. 17 1/2", 27 oz kick ass chopper, plus sexy fullers!
Bark River Knife and Tool, Bravo-1, Great mid sized woods user!
Koster, D-2 K-Tusk in spearpoint , this one gets more carry and use than most of my knives, small, strong user and keeps a good edge.

I see the Barkies are strong in this thread, I may have to succumb and buy a smaller one for edc of little tasks.

Not pretty, but my three must haves are my Cold Steel Bolo (it gets a lot of hard use), my John Greco 6" Scagel, and my Buck 110 (the grandfather of tactical knives).

    Don't worry though, I have a BRK&T gameskeeper and a Bravo-1 on the way.

Chopper: Scrap Yard Dog Father (jackhammer steel and a shock absorbing handle . . . perfect):

Fighter: Busse Straight Handled Satin Jack (a classic):

EDC: Fallkniven F1 (if it's good enough for the Swedish Air Force . . .)

Chopper/ machete? Hmm, BRKT Golok, Mad Dog Manitou or SAS - or how about just a simple machete with a 20-inch blade? I will say whichever is handiest, either the Manitou or the Golok - the rounded point on the golok is pretty handy as is the knife itself and it is a very proven and inexpensive cutter, and I used a Manitou to harvest cholla, bunnies and a petrified 2x6 and it still shaved cleanly. I'd prefer a slightly dropped kydex belt rig for my Golok and this would make it even closer, really.

Fighter - I have more affinity for a Mad Dog Bear Cat than I do any other mid-sized everyday carry knife. If it was unavailable, I would snag a BRKT Wet Recon out of the box. If Mike gets one of the two Bark G10 recons up at his place done for me anytime soon, I'll be a very happy camper indeed!

I say midsized-knife as a fighter since I may need to tote it under a t-shirt or a suit, as well as in the daily grind. If we are talking about full-blown go-nutz Visigoth and I am not concerned at all about trying to make it discreet, I am trading the Bear Cat for my Panther and anything man or beast is in for a rough go with that one.

Small knife - I really like the BRKT Classic Light Hunter I tote everywhere. My Escort ought to be in any day now. Either one of these, depending on how the Escort fares.

I make note that the basic use profile is the same for any in the size category and I can use ANY of these (except the Panther and I bet I can make that work) for either work or play. The Panther is the only double edge in there, no tantos, no serrations, all kydex sheathing, all synthetic handles (G10 or an analog at that)

These also are knives with which I am intimately familiar of their use and abuse profiles and I can use any of these successfully to either skin a vole, make dinner or disembowel a rabid wild pig on the move if need be. To be fair, the Panther will have an easier time with the wild pig, but man-sized meat is not usually quite so motivated

There are some great choices in here and the rationale is pretty clear as to why you'd choose these.

Maybe also since we now have this topic in front of us, I can start selling the hell out of a serious collection? Royal, thanks for a great topic.
