    Setting up a ventilation/exhaust system...

Just thought I'd share some pics of this. I decided to do this with PVC (4") in lieu of flex tube etc......

It's had some mods since the pics.... and it vents out into a 50 gallon drum. I've also added some more equipment since these were taken. I'll add some updated ones soon.

Don't use any T joints if you can avoid it, use elbow bends. Shavings etc.. will build up in T joints (I learned this the hard way some time ago. Titanium shavings go up like gunpowder.....

Here's the setup, and much like some girls I knew in college, it can suck down a bowling ball.....

Maybe this would be a seperate thread, but what do you and everybody else use as a ventilator.

Not just the setup, but the actual unit.

Im trying to decide on one.

Hey, nice plumbing work you did there. Cheers!

Looks good. I used PVC also. I had read about static building up in PVC and I ran some bare copper wire through my system and grounded it so as not to get an unexpected BOOM!
Here's some pics of mine. It's two stage. After it it leaves the trash can, it blows outside. I only have 3 openings. So it is very simple. I tried to use sweeps and 45's instead of 90's.

Wow, that is some fancy stuff. I just have a 3 foot whole house exhaust fan on one wall. You can kinda see it in the top corner here- http://www.mountainhollow.net/grizzly_2.htm . I've heard of troubles with fires in the dust collector/pipe systems so I've never really looked into it. I had a side of my shop burn down once and I'm kinda scared now.

    That's a killer setup David

I get the static boom on occasion, but honestly, it's pretty easy to tell when it's going to happen and kind of funny to do. That being said, I'd be a hell of a lot better off grounding it....

My exhaust fan is a 3 HP one from Harbor Freight. I've had it for 5 years and it works like a champ. I really want to get the 5 hp one that JET makes, but there's a small issue of money.....

    That's a cool set-up Mark...
I have been talking about setting up something in my shop, but like j. have always worried about burning my shop down.
I always worry that stuff like Titanium sparks will get sucked up and start the dust burning.
It looks like the way you have yours run, with the trash can outside and separated from the blower, it would be pretty hard for anything to stay hot that far.

Thanks for the pix. i think I need to get something like that started....

If I'm worried about something that will burn, I turn it off. I think I benefit the most from it grinding handle material. The bucket of water catches a ton of shit.

Why yes, it surely does. Now whether it could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch...............not sure on that one......

On the Ti sparks/shavings/fire et. al........ Basically, the more bends you put in the system, the more diffusion you've got. So very rarely, by the time it gets outside into the 50 gal (metal) drum, will it still be live. I've got a good amount of water in there anyway...

I think I paid 50 bucks for the 1hp delta dust collector from fleabay. Not the best, but not bad. I only got 3 outlets and when you close the gates not being used it does pretty good.
