Kind of confusing

Just came back from the ER. Pregnant wife not feeling so hot, but she is fine. This post is really about the sleeping pill they gave her to help her rest. You have all probably heard of it. Ambien.

I read the part about possible side effects and this really confused me.

"There is a low occurrence of side effects associated with the short-term use of AMBIEN. The most commonly observed side effects in controlled clinical trials were drowsiness (2%), dizziness (1%), and diarrhea (1%). "

2%drowsiness? Is a side effect of sleeping medication? Shouldnt that be like 98% chance of drowsiness. Oh well

The 2% probably means outside of the time one should normally be tired, like after the prescribed 8+ hours.

Good that she OK. Sleeping pills and hospitals! I remember being woken up to take a sleeping pill by a nurse who excused herself because the pill had been "prescribed" by the doctor, so , she had to wake me to make me sleep!

This is what's known as " cash register " medicine.
Very common here in the states , where a couple ibuprophen will set you back a cool 25.00
You will get the shit whether you need it or not.
Last time my Mum was in , she refused one medication based on her past experience with it.
But sure as shit , it was right there on the bill after she was discharged.
They should have a sound effect on your door that resembles a cash register closing ......it could play every time the nurse enters.
Next , there will be cover charge for visitors.
