Taking care of the employee

O.K. , I am personally invested in this one , so I will make no effort to hide my bias.
I was laid off for a week a short time ago.........our brilliant leaders in Georgia told our terminal manager to lay off the bottom 12 guys and then offer us a chance to work out of another terminal that was swamped with work. ( but go down there under article 38 , where we are responsible for our own lodging and no per diem instead of the tolerable article 48 which insures a room and meal money )
2 guys were stupid enough to go and the problem wasn't even close to addressed.
I got recalled after a week and took dispatch like normal......... then I was told that my bid truck was being retired and I would need a spare.
I asked if I needed to get my stereo , C.B. radio and tools etc out of the truck right away and they said " Yes.......it will be going early this week ."
So I go looking for the truck to remove my shit...................the fucker has left the building.
Our mechanics are supposed to go over the trucks before they go to make sure they are road worthy and they will take any personal effects out of them and put the stuff aside for us.
The fucking scabs who shuttle equipment came in on Sunday and took it , along with all my stuff..........told no one , just grabbed it.
It went to Dearborn , Mi. and .................surprise of surprises ......... there was nothing in the truck when it got there.
Some hell was raised and I will be reimbursed to replace everything , but what the fuck ?????
So the last two weeks have been in the truck du jour until I get to bid another piece of equipment.
Have you ever driven 500 miles in a day with no tunes ?
Nothing but road noise.
Wait , it gets better.............into a 30 + mile per hour head wind , so the piece of shit you are piloting will only do 45 m.p.h. ?
In a fucking 75 m.p.h. zone ?
Yesterday.........Cottage Grove , Mn. to Minot , N.D.
I ran out of fucking hours in Devil's Lake , N.D. ( something appropriate there , don't you think ? ) and had to bed down in a flea bag hotel that had wireless internet...........in the opposite wing of the hotel I was in , and I was too tired to bitch about it , let alone move to another room.
The hits just keep on coming !

Wow...your company sounds just as bad as the one I work for.

Their idea of a Christmas bonus? A $10 gift certificate to the trashiest grocery store in town. Oh, sorry! I forgot about the cookies the company prez and his wife hand out on Christmas Eve. Yeah, we have to work a half day on Christmas Eve, and be there an hour early, at that.

Soooo, I need surgery. We get no PAID medical leave, just medical leave, and I can't afford to go four to six weeks without a paycheck. Nobody gives a shit, and when I complained about it I got shoulder-shrugs.

We don't get a bonus... The bosses/doctors apparently used to, but then the hospital decided that wasn't allowed because it wasn't 'fair'... Not sure why... I guess because it wasn't the exact same at all three facilities? Fuckers....

Never got one with the last job, so at least I wasn't missing anything.

I hate to hijack a thread, but ya'all brought up the xmas bonus thing. A few years ago we had the Great Christmas Turkey raffle. They gave our whole shop a dozen birds. We had over a hundred people working there at that time. Yep. Draw names outta the hat to see if you get a cheap turkey. Everyone elce got jack. "God bless us, everyone" my ass.

We all take some crap from the man

I work for a Fortune 100 company, that's been around for a very long time......."the company" has got a new business plan. Which means we work harder, they see the money, and we get a thank you and a smile-No more money though. I usually like a little foreplay before a proper fucking, they don't even lube me up before they ram me in the ass!!!!

-There is no "holiday" bonus. We DO get to pay for the luxury of going to the holiday party....that's right, we PAY to go to the holiday party that is supposed to be a treat for us as the employees....between $30-$50 bucks a person!!! No wonder why every year that ass kissing party is a bust.

-We have a monthly bonus that can be given, yet every quarter the metrics needed for said bonus, get raised. Not a huge amount, juuust enough so that fewer people make the bonus each passing quarter. The powers that be continue to make it harder to make bonuses, to the point now where a full bonus is almost impossible.

-I"ll also be trained at the end of this month to serve yet another function, of course for no more money, I was told this particular function is now an "expectation" in my job description, when I was hired, this function was considered a promotion.

People ask me when I plan to come back from maternity leave.........I've not yet answered anyone, I just laugh.

bummer about the equipment. hope you get the cash or the stuff. as for north dakota, I traveled that state for 7 years, corner to corner. I've spent several nights in Devils Lake and Minot. I got snowed into Minot for 3 days once. I feel your pain. You're lucky you got a room during goose season up there..

Yup, it's part of the anger and angst I feel being unemployed right now. I ran my own consumer electronics repair business for 18 years. I treated all my employees as members of the team and valuable...because they were! My old partner was a crusty old asshole that treated everyone like baggage or slackers. I always cautioned him about talking to technicians I had hired and trained like second class citizens...I tossed him up against a wall one day and told him unless he could do every job in the place by himself (he couldn't) that he better start being courteous to the employees and act like a human.

'Cause if one guy quit because of his having to be a Jackass everyday I was gonna take him out back and pound the shit out of him. I'd probably get arrested for it now but it worked back then.


In my job search it has appalled me how much employers take the employees for granted. It's a fucked up job market and that's for sure.

I wonder if it'll get better anytime soon.

Tubtar, I hope you git yer shit back or the cash to buy new. Driving all day with no tunes can't be any fun at all.
