i have taken some friends advise on this but i want the JD'ers to decide.
i am told i should get a pet like this one in the photo.
i am told they are easy to housebreak and don't damage the drapes. teething is a problem sometimes. up-keep is reported to be HIGH!
food is not a big problem. they get quit big at times. this one is 1.5 meters tall and about 40kgs.
please advise.

My Savannah Monitor, Ned
Been awake for the last 2 days sitting with my 15 year old Collie/Sheppard mix Nick because he couldn't move anything but his head. Had my vet telling me to leave him there to die and I told him to pound sand, but not that nicely. Had a bunch of cleanup because I made him as comfortable as possible in my living room and he couldn't control his bowels anymore. There was no way in hell I was going to let him die stuck in some asshole vets cage surrounded by all sorts of animals making all sorts of ruckus. Took him to a different vet first thing this morning and he died within a minute of me putting him on the table. Life sucks but I know he had a better on than most people so I'm at peace with it. I also know that he knew I wasn't going to leave him anywhere and I would be with him til the end. He was the smartest dog I've ever had and I will miss him greatly but it was time.
Now he's back to Benny stealing his food again instead of Steve...
