    Vallotton/Sebenza D/A

gregw's thread for "stealth auto's" started this and I didn't want to hi-jack his thread so I started my own.

Bare in mind, this is my first Sebenza, so I don't really know what I'm looking for and have nothing to compare it to. I've had a few Vallotton's and this lives up to their reputation.

Initial impressions are, it's pretty light-weight, fairly sharp (seems like it's sharpened at an odd angle though), locks up very tight with ZERO blade play, and is a cool knife overall. It has a jeweled kickspring, anodized & fileworked firing button (yes, the purplish-blue-circle-thing mentioned in the other thread...looks like titanium to me) and kicks like a Vallotton. The spring is strong as hell, but it opens a little "sluggishly" (if that makes sense). You can tell it's a strong spring, just feels like the blade is dragging on something. I have a sneaking suspicion, though, it just needs to be broken in a little and will loosen right up. It opens a little sluggishly in manual mode as well.

All in all it's a cool knife and definitely a keeper. I'll likely carry it as I like the size and overall feel of the knife.

I know this is not the kind of review you guys are used to, Blade Magazine is still reviewing my application, but if you have any questions...feel free to ask.

    And the obligatory pics...

    That's a beauty Motor05. Is it a Large Sebbie??
I think 'Blade' should be all over it like a sexually transmitted infection?
    Nice score!

Nice thread. As far as being as sluggish opener, how does it compare to other 'common' side openers you have? I am familiar with the MT SOCOMs. Is it slower than those?

Ray, I'm not sure if it's a large or small...I know that sounds pretty lame, but again this is the only Sebenza I've ever held. I included a pic with a ruler if that helps.

Mark, Here's some pics of the leaf spring, deployed and "cocked". Hope it helps.

D, It's about like a SOCOM...I have a Brad Duncan Whiplash, and it's very similar to it also. I don't mean that it's slow, just that it feels like there's a little friction in there. I think it's from the frame lock, 'cause when I push it over so it's not making contact with the blade, the blade moves much more freely (duh-huh, only makes sense eh?). I'm sure it will loosen up with use.

Mark the 2nd pic is the from the top; spring deployed. 3rd, bottom; spring deployed. 4th, top; spring cocked. 5th, bottom; spring cocked.

    Question

Do you think trying a little rem oil or the like might help?

its a leaf spring so it should fire good....i bet the pivot screw just needs to be loosened a little and she will fire better.

Hey Ron, I posted a video of it on youtube, here's the link.

And I haven't lubed it up yet...it came in today, I put some pics up, made the post, and had to go run some errands with the wife. I'll put some rem oil on it and let it soak in over night.

Mark, I haven't messed with the pivot screw. I'll probably wait on that and see if it needs it after a while.

I may have mis-led you guys...it's not slow or weak by any means (I guess I chose the wrong words in the first post). It's just not as smooth as some other leaf spring D/A's I have and have played with. Don't take it out of context... it's still a damn nice knife, and I think with some break in time (which it's certainly getting) it will be just as smooth as any other I've handled. Sorry for the misinformation or confusion.

I think the idea is kinda cool!!.... "But" I just can`t believe that can be good for a Sebbie....they are made for smooth opening & I think after a while it`s gonna take it`s toll on her IMO... then again they are built like tanks. are ya gonna EDC that one ?? or safe queen-it...??

Thanks for the video. Did you send it to the V's for the conversion or buy it that way?
