What do you do with deceased pets?

My morning Freecycle digest contained this item:

    5. Offer: Dead Downey Woodpecker From: Amanda

I used to bag & freeze my dead angel fish in winter before I buried them when the ground softened. A friend kept something like 17 former pets in her freezer for two years until she could find the right spot to inter them.

What do you do with dead goldfish, cats, dogs, and other beloved fur & feathered (scaled) friends ?

When I was little the dead fish went down the toilet...But, other animals..like our dogs if they passed on were buried in a field on my uncles property and they had a cross with their name on it...
BUT, there is NO WAY I would hold on to a dead animal and freeze it ...that is just gross

Pet fish were 'flushed' to the great beyond; hamsters were buried under the shrubs in a cardboard box after saying my good-byes; cats & dogs of my earlier years were left with the vet to dispose of after final good-byes (mass graves, I suppose); Angus & Bonnie were cremated and their ashes rest in my home (as will Clyde when the time comes).

My cats in the back yard. I took my Boxer out to the woods, she used to sniff the marygolds in the yard, so I planted 2 packs of marygold seeds on top of her grave.

My sons bird died last year and he found her, so he made us put her in a shoebox with a washrag and her perch, and buried her in the back yard. It was so sad to see his little face while doing this. I don't think I would keep something around too long.

I burried my old cat in the woods. I took some flowers from nearby, & put them on top of his site. That was such a sad day.

SS.....it's the worst to see little kids bury one of their pets...it really is.

I bring them to the Vet, of course the service is paying.
    You've got to methods:
first, less expensive you give the dead animal for inceniration
second, the vet get you back a box with the ashes after incineration

Nic is here now. He rests on our dresser. The box was made by a guy who works with my father in law.

We have an animal graveyard on the farm and it contains a cow, a couple calves, some of my late f-i-l's hunting hounds, 2 farm cats and some smaller pets.

The dead downy woodpecker found a place to rest, it seems - here is what I found in the Freecycle Digest this morning:

The poor little guy has found a home. Thanks for all the heart felt

My late husband thought it was funny. When he came home from work he would open the freezer to get ice for his drink - see the little fish in its plastic bag - and joke, "We having Fish for dinner again?"

Our 2 cats, and our Great Dane's ashes are still with us, in their own place, so will the ones (3 cats, 2 dogs) we have now, when their time comes. I buried my first Ball Python in a box, coiled around himself, in my wife's flower garden. Deep, and with a big, flat rock over him to prevent accidental exhumation.

A few years back a friend told me he had a cat pass on and he wanted to cremate the cat, but he was flat busted and had not the funds to acommplish this.

He told me the cat was in the freezer and would be for a while until he had the funds to bury his cat, named "Hey C'mere."

He was talking for a while - nothing registered but the image of the cat on top the Tombstones next to the TV dinners.

When I told him this, he let me know the cat was in the vet's freezer.....we had a pretty good laugh about that.

When Sparky died, I buried him in the garden and found old pottery while digging. I was thinking of having him stuffed and mounted on a skateboard for his companion, Duke, to pull around.
