I've heard a couple claims that there is a sentiment brewing among some Mexicans, that the US stole land from Mexico, and that they should take it back.
I could honestly see some tiny kernel of truth in this, in that some land was taken as the result of war way back when, but I hope there aren't too many credible people spouting this bullshit.
Can you imagine if Mexico became our Palestine? If Mexico would be to the US, as Palestine is to Israel? There's a scary thought, eh?
Has anyone seen or heard any serious talk of this idea? I mean, someone else who was serious about it? I am certainly not serious about it yet, I just keep hearing of statements to this effect... that some Mexicans think they should take back territory stolen from them?
From The Washington Time...

DENVER -- La reconquista, a radical movement calling for Mexico to "reconquer" America's Southwest, has stepped out of the shadows at recent immigration-reform protests nationwide as marchers held signs saying, "Uncle Sam Stole Our Land!" and waved Mexico's flag.
Even as organizers urged marchers to display U.S. flags, the theme of reclaiming "stolen" land remained strong. One popular banner read: "If you think I'm illegal because I'm a Mexican, learn the true history because I'm in my homeland." (blah blah blah....)
This one is from "Workers World" (yeah, I know... that's why I asked if anyone takes this seriously)

As Congress fights over what anti-immigrant law to impose, and the right wing rails against the powerful new movement demanding legalization of undocumented workers, one question is never addressed by the politicians and pundits: Who does the land of the United States really belong to?
The “founding fathers” and their successors stole the entire country from the Indigenous nations through centuries of war, treachery and genocide. A huge swath of the country was torn from Mexico.
Texas, California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Kansas belonged to the Mexican@ people. The Spanish had first annexed Mexico, killing millions of indigenous people.
Even before the Mexican people won liberation from Spain in 1821, rulers in this country were plotting to take their land, proclaiming with cruel arrogance that it was their manifest destiny to take whatever they wanted. (blah blah blah....)
