ME here, with all four years to back it up. For whatever that's worth in the real world, I suppose.

I'd be interested to see any design sketches you have, I have absolutely NO experience and even less interest in balis, honestly, but I LOVE a good machining project and I work in a CNC environment. Perhaps I can offer some assistance in making your design producible in theory, at least.

One of the four was doing that. I, thank God, am done with actual calc classes. Only Diff Eq. left and a whole slew of physics courses. General Physics II, Thermo, statics, dynamics, Strengths of Materials. (Already have a head start in that one, thank you hobbies!)

Why have titanium bushings if you'll cheap out on the washers contacting the handles with brass and not PB?

Why bother using D2, 154cm or 14C28N if you'll just drill holes? You'd turn it into a trainer and make it less flippable and your overall design, while it is a cool concept, would make the bali severely unbalanced. What kind of profile do you have in mind? Double edge is the only sensible route if your making holes or slots down the center or are you only making holes for an inlay? How long would the blade and handles be? Do you have a certain weight in mind?

Titanium handles slabs would be difficult to mill and even G10 also has a tendency to be tougher to shape using the same machines and processes. Do you actually plan on doing that work yourself or would you hire a machinist to do the milling/CNC/waterjet for you?

You do have some ideas that is, while unique, a nightmare to make and impractical to build. I'd say take some more time with the design in your head. I'm only asking you these questions because I'm not sure how well you thought it out.
I personally don't have the tools to build anything. (i could but it would be through the school i graduated at last year. I wouldn't be able to produce a blade, Only handles, and i've never worked with G10 before so that would be a learning experience.) I wasn't sure what the best washers would be so i just said brass because it has the least friction against steel off the top of my head (same for the blade type, i just went with something that i know is used in most balisongs). As for the blade holes, that was just a weight adjustment and looks idea, it dose sound kind of unnecessary now that you point it out. The blade design is a double edge look but one side is crowned. As for the handles. The G10 isn't going to be something you can really see. It was more of an idea for a solid material that will weigh less and take up some space. I have no design for looks in the handle so it would just be a flat steel slab over G10 for the prototype if i could make one. I am considering .075 steel rather then .125, but that would depend on the weight of the steel with the g10 in one handle. That would play a factor in stability though, so the steel inside the G10 would have to be placed where the Zen pins are in order to give stability to the thin steel. The same would have to be done with the spacers. I do have sketches so if you are seriously interested i can upload them to convey the design better. When i get the chance that is.

Go for it. Its always good to see drawings as it helps with getting thoughts on the design. While I'm not an engineer myself nor do I see myself going for it in the near future, a draft does help gauge how I see your design. You might also get some more design input from the more knowledgeable.

Glad to hear it. I plan on getting my sketches on here when i can.

So.. are you going to make a balisong or are you going to get a custom maker to build you this?

Or are we just looking at drawings of balisongs?

So far its just concept. I have sketches i drew up to convey the idea. I haven't decided if i want to take on the challenge of making a bali. I probably could construct the handles because i can get access to a CNC machine and the rest of the tools i need, but honestly i'd rather have a maker screw around with the idea.
