I've posted pictures but they don't reflect what I look like anymore - this is what I have now, although I'm holding it open here, usually the lid is almost completely closed. In about a month I ***might*** just get a prosthesis that fits.

DD you're very courageous for showing us, prosthesis today are real fakes, a young man at work lost his eye with a chip of drill bit, and today you really can't guess. One month is quick past, i visited your gallery and you make a very good job, sacred character, an example of tenacity for all.

OK... it's different... but knowing you now, it's not all that gross. Do you have to irrigate the socket with any type of solution and is the '8-ball' prosthesis still an option?
It’s taken 9 different dogs and 65 long years to makeme the gentle, patient, mellow man that I am today.Don’t be fuckin’with me and piss me the fuck off!
That isn't gross. It is really something with what you went through with all that. Did you go through mourning the loss of your eye? I hope you get a prothesis that works for you, and that you don't have any problems with it. God bless sister!

I took the picture and I can tell you for a fact she was nekkid as a jay bird.
Stuff dealing with eye injuries have always been the thing that most gave me the heebee jeebies and grossed me out. But, somehow, this has not bothered me a bit for even a moment, other than the fact that I knew she suffered with it.
The first day she had it done, I was able to apply medicine and wipe away "the juice." It has been an amazing experience. Zero gross out for me.
The first prosthesis was pretty cool. The doc will either resize it with a medical standard dremel tool or he'll have to make a new one. I'm sure it will look great, and will hopefully move more than the first one.
I've got a video of her holding the eye socket open like this and rolling her other eye around so you can see that little oyster of muscle tissue in the open eye socket move around. It might be too big to upload, though.
Anybody that curious?
I use "ocular lubricant" - isn't that a great name - for the curved plastic "conformer" I wear now to keep the tissue from growing together and to prop up the lid. There's also a bunch of other icky stuff, cleaner and protein remover because I get eye boogies.Originally Posted by Clydetz

The 8-ball is coming if I have to make it myself! The doctor absolutely refuses to make me one but told me I can put a contact on the glass eye. I found an internet site that has a bunch of bizarre lenses, so I'm like a kid in a candy shop.
TKC - The eye was so damaged and making me so sick (headaches, nausea, and vertigo) it was a relief getting rid of it. I do mourn the loss of vision - it has changed me in more ways than I can write here.
Umberto - I laughed about the mint but I have actually been worried about how easy it would be to smuggle stuff on a plane in an arm or leg prosthesis. I could fit something the size of a thumb tip in my socket.
Thanks, OC, it changes my painting yes, but I like to think that I see differently and that should be an advantage for an artist.
DD,
It didn't bother me nearly as bad as I thought it would to peek. Thank you for the warning though! I don't gross out easily....but eye injuries have always bothered me. If someone just has a horrible black eye, I can't look at them without my eyes watering out of sympathy.
A friend of mine, who has had a "glass eye" for a long time, slipped on the ice... falling flat on his back. He hit hard enough that it knocked him out for a couple seconds. Unfortunately he was on a hill when he fell....he never did find his prosthesis.
Are you gonna have a spare?
