Would I be a complete numb nuts for wanting a recon 1 tango with triad lock for an everyday beater knife?

Nothing handles Buick car hoods, old computer cases, slabs of dead pig, and manilla rope like a Cold Steel - because as we all know every single one of those is a REAL threat EVERY DAY!

I have a 2 almost 3 XL glove size hands. I am afraid that a balisong would chop off my fingers! My wife and mini mi wouldn't like that! Lol

Yes, I have big feet too. Size 16 or a 17 in Nike's! What I really want is a Darrel Ralph AXD Bowie blade assisted opening. That is my dream knife.

If you DO get one, you`ll be required to post a video of yourself chopping up some old work boots full of raw meat....

I'm retiring my Sebenza, looks like permanently.

    I favor an American Lawman.

It was $50 and I've used it in all manner of gunk for all sorts of mundane and stupid chores for a couple years. Never had anything untoward with it. Love it.

It's lightweight, locks solidly, has never failed to lock.

Just make sure you clean the grit and dirt out of it once in a while, then put a little lite lube in the pivot.

It is ok to have and use a beater knife. I do not worry about using Cold Steel products due to the easy to replace prices.

I personally see nothing wrong with coldsteel knives. Their marketing campaign is kinda goofy but the blade steels are good and the handles, albeit plasticy, holds the blade well.

I have the choice of many knives to carry from low end prod. to high end prod and a couple of nice customs. These are just my folders. Many many fixed blades to choose. I however find myself more and more carrying my Recon 1 drop point plain edge. I've said this before I don't know who or how they do heat treats the AUS8a CS uses but it seems to take a very hard sharp edge. Very different from other types of AUS8a knives I've owned. Matter of fact the Recon is the only AUS8a knife I own and frankly it is superb. Lock used is second to none. So there ya go. keepem sharp

I used to have one of the AK 47s and loved it. I used to beat the hell out of that thing and nothing seemed to phase it. I finally broke the blade while actually trying to break it but it took real effort and a piece of pipe. The toughest folding knife I've owned by far. The grind on the blade left a lot to be desired, but it cut things work related, so I never really complained. I think I may get another one soon.

I own a number of Cold Steel knives, most of them are 1980`s vintage. The newest one is around 10 or 11 years old, it`s a Voyager XL (5-inch blade), made in Japan, with a VG-10 blade, and incredibly strong lockback. Even though the pivot pin is the permanent rivet type, it`s extremely solid, with no play after lots of EDC use.
IMHO, CS makes some great knives for the working man on a somewhat restricted budget. I say, ignore the CS advertising (which seems to be aimed largely at 17-year-old mall ninjas), and purchase their knives based on their physical attributes. You can get a respectable working knife for well under a hundred bucks if you shop around.

I like their knives. Especially since the resale (except for Balisongs) price is much lower than retail.

I have only 2 fixed blades:

    San Mai Trailmaster
    San Mai Master Tanto

I only have a Wide Point Arc Angel. I have acquired and sold and acquired and sold the double edge Balisong. They're just too damn scary for my taste. But I did not mind flipping them, when compared to my other heavier double edged knives like my 29 knives Stiletto.

I don't cut rope but they do cut steaks and chops, like Buttah!

You could always sport an extra large Espada. You never know when you'll need 7 and half inches of blade to open a bag of peanuts.
