    My two favorite EDC's: Emerson

Yeah I know I'm more of a balisong guy... but these are a couple of my favorites!

First one is an Emerson CQC7 with a Reese Weiland CQC6 handle conversion. It has a 40S&W thumb disc (made by me) and I refinished the scales the other day! Now there is a hear anodized finish only on the edges and bevels of the knife and polished flats

The other is one of my all time favorite Emerson designs... the CQC8. May be dead stock right bow, but I'll made a double tap 9mm disc for this baby ASAP.

I want a Journeyman really bad. Just can't afford it right now. Its hard not to like Emerson. He has the right idea about many aspects of folder design.

I've been wearing it on and off for about a year now and I love it The coating has never so much as scratched and it's just an awesome watch!

I'm back and forth between this and my Oakley watch depending on what I'm doing.

Generic picture, but I'll get some real one's later

    Oh and sick po-boy CQC-6

You know you should sell those Flyfathers to buy a full blown custom. I had a CQC-6 at one point in time. It's like all the romanticism for Emerson knives condensed in one awesome, indestructible piece.

I actually don't care for the productions as much, the customs though are really epic if you can land one for under 1k.

Does Reese still accept work? I think a boat tail handle with a Roadhouse blade might be something to look into hehe.

    Thanks man

The flyfathers are here to stay for a long time If I was lucky enough to win a 6 in a raffle I would love to have one, but I just couldn't drop THAT much on a knife I know I would never use it. That's why I love my cqc6/7... If I found a user Rhino though it would be nearly impossible to pass up.

I don't think that Reese still accepts work... I've sent him a few emails over the span of 9 months and haven't heard anything back from him...

I love my cqc 13 for edc. The shape and width of the handle is just perfect for my hands. I dont know what it is. I normally like neutral handles, but the cqc 13 just feels good in my hands.

There arent too many Emerson designs I like, but those that I do I really am nuts for.

    Indifferent about the chisel grind.

Yeah I became friends with him over the weekend, we got along really well, sold him a knife as well as getting $100 off it. Notice the SOLD status.

I'm taking a break from balisong acquisitions and just decided to buy a grail folder on a whim.

There are a wonderful pair of ATCF's on another website with ironwood overlays for the same price (3.5" version), they're in used condition but I intend to carry this one so no exotic wood scales for me!

NICE! that's the close up i've been looking for.
You got a great example Chris.
This is the simpler blade styles I like.
I also like the later bolsters this one has, that didn't have the extra screw holes like my earlier one.
I love it when he "bulges out" the scales a bit too, and the canvas micarta looks real rugged.

Not to change the thread, but your new Terzuola is gonna give the emerson a complex

Bob is a good friend to many on the other forum I come from. One guy literally has 50 of his knives. Bob joked about the 50th one being on him, but on the day he got to 49, Bob ended up being a man of his word.

There are two makers that I've bought from who's prices have not changed with the times, as well as their policies on knifemaking and dealing with customers that have knives within my price range.

Bob's ATCF's are 500-700. In the 90's it was 375, lets just call it inflation. Considering his success, his demand, and his ability to make a fair amount of these and make them well, he could have easily priced his knives into the skyline and ran train on the knife market. Instead, he chose to be humble, pay respects to his original demographic, and do the thing we all love about our knifemakers, making knives for people.

Emerson, while I do not agree with the decision to focus energy on the productions, his knives have always been the same way in terms of pricing (except for there is a lottery system for who gets to buy one now). His knives are even moreso sold by friendship than marketing and magazine articles. Nothing wrong with media, but there is a personal touch and a bond of friendship that is transferred with every knife that leaves his hands. I thought that was really amazing and even if you don't like the knives like I do, the subculture that is fairly evident wherever a serious Emerson discussion takes place is quite impressive.

His production folders don't honestly impress me too much on paper I'll be blunt, but the cutting performance and the durability is very real. They tend spend less time worrying about sprint runs, and super steels, and more time taking care of customers.

Emerson production knives seem to draw a lot of flack, I don't really see how anyone could get mad at a company for not making what you want. If you want a knife to use everyday, mine has been nothing but dependable.

Plus when my liner was out of spec (too late lock up) it was a very painless process for them to fix it up.
