Suggestion for the wanted to buy section...

I'm not really that active on this board, but I have been here for a few years. I posted a thread about trying to find a specific knife in the WTB section. I had someone email me and he said he had the knife. We negotiated on a price via email. When we came to an agreement, he asked me to PayPal him to another address, one that was in Malasia.

Long story short, he tried to scam me because I ran a search on his new email address that he provided, and it looks like he scammed a few members here. He's fishing in the WTB section. It might be a good idea to perhaps post a sticky in that section for newbies.

Lucky for me, I was able to cancel the transaction before he accepted the PayPal funds. And for those who don't know, if you send funds to someone via PayPal and it's sent as a gift....you can't dispute it. Be careful guys, I will only deal with long time vets of this forum in the future...this was my mistake, but I got lucky and was able to stop it.

Profile came up on a search:

    Location Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur

A sticky with known scammers is a great idea.

Yep, that's him. If you google voonyee86, you will find a bunch of pics of his with family, travel, etc. I saw red flags as soon as he asked me to send funds to Malasia. Careful guys!!

    Exclamation

So, OUR other rules which if ANYONE followed them, would have stopped all of this. Dead stop, full stop. The rules are in place for your safety. The first and foremost rule would be READ THE RULES.

I always read the rules of every board I visit. I'm the owner/admin of 3 boards, so I know how things should work. Either I missed something in the rules of the board, or there are more rules listed elsewhere. I don't believe I broke any rules. Maybe I made the mistake of posting my email address in the thread...I was under the assumption that only members can read the WTB section of the board. Again, my mistake.

I made the mistake of trusting someone that I thought was a reputable member here. At the end of the day, when it was time to pay for the knife....he changed email addresses on me as well as names. IPs didn't match. He tells me he's from the US....yet his IP goes back to Malasia. Now he said he will be shipping the knife from Australia. Too many red flags so I canceled the transaction with PayPal before he could accept funds. IT'S MY FAULT that I did not look more into his identity before I sent funds. Lesson learned.

Can you please point out to me where I missed these other rules? Thank you.

In the box one would click the link to register, it clearly states YOU MUST INTRODUCE yourself. In the forums rules (short version) that one must agree to in order to continue the registration process it clearly states YOU MUST INTRODUCE YOURSELF. In the first initial email where one would confirm their email address there is a link, and in that email it clearly states YOU MUST INTRODUCE YOURSELF. When the registrant clicks the link the forum software kicks that back upstairs to be manually authorized. In the interim said registrant cannot post anywhere. (Having ZERO posts would be one hell of a red fucking flag at this point, wouldn't one agree but I digress....)

Upon Admin. approval yet another email is dispatched with yet another LINK (see where this is headed?) and another clearly stated YOU MUST INTRODUCE YOURSELF. When the registrant clicks on that link to activate their account the forum software dispatches an automated private message, it too contains..wait for it...wait for it... another link and notice to properly introduce yourself in the introduction area.

All of that being typed, anyone who thinks something is too good to be true, well it probably is. If they cannot be bothered to introduce themselves why on Earth would anyone think they are good standing members minimally? I cannot fathom all of these stories about people being in such a rush to get what they want that they throw common sense to the wind so recklessly and carelessly.

The rules (all of this) were put into play to cover the apparent lack of common sense and the nature of scammers on the Internet. You truly do not believe this is limited to only JerzeeDevil, right?

Thank you for your reply (and sarcasm). I registered here about 2 years ago, I don't remember seeing those guidelines, but I could be mistaken.

In any case, I went ahead and posted an intro thread to identify myself here now. I know it's a bit late, but I thought it would be best to do so now. Hope everything is in order, I included a good amount of info in my intro thread...if I should add more, I'll be happy to do so.

    Thanks!

That wasn't about you! That was about the scammer! (Or people who come here to lurk, we hate lurkers!)

Sorry....thought you were talking about me because I asked where I could find these other rules I was unaware of. Thanks for clearing everything up for me and for merging my two intros. It's been a long day...thanks!

    DH,
Most anybody who's had a longish "conversation" with Mr. LaBella ends up asking for a traslated version. It is just one of the attributes that contributes to his awesomeness.

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

i have another suggestion... if someone responds to your wtb ad, and you find the product you want, post pics....

everyone's seen some of the more popular things in the wtb ads, [magazines for guns, bm 42s, szaboflys] but i wanna see more of the rarer items that are found, like the cat that is trying to buy the japanese character knives, with panthers n such on the handles. or the guy who's working on his taylor/seto collection.
    KMNREMTP

    In vino veritas.

Will consider purchasing Ben Cardoso or Nathan Dewey balisongs... pm me with a description/price if you might sell.

    Damn, I love this forum!
